Michelle F.” Micky” Ogburn
Micky Ogburn is in her fifth year representing the Three Chopt District, including serving two years as Board chair. She graduated from Longwood University with degrees in elementary and history education. The Three Chopt District representative has been a teacher for more than 20 years, in pre-K, second, fifth, and sixth grades in Charleston, W.Va. and in the Virginia counties of Culpeper, Prince William, Fairfax and Henrico. Ogburn was an intervention teacher at Henrico County’s Short Pump Elementary School for the seven years before her election to the School Board. She was an active PTA board member at Short Pump Elementary School, Short Pump and Pocahontas middle schools, and Godwin and Deep Run high schools. She is an active member of the Rotary Club of Short Pump, and Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for key women educators. Ogburn has also been a committed community volunteer with several youth sports associations, school-based sports booster organizations, the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, and her neighborhood homeowner’s association.
Ogburn and her husband David have lived in Henrico County for 25 years. Their two sons attended Henrico County Public Schools from elementary school through high school graduation. Her experience as an HCPS parent, PTA board member and volunteer, and teacher gives her a unique perspective in her service on the School Board and first-hand knowledge of the concerns of students and their parents. She feels that going directly from the classroom to the School Board has given her the experience necessary to comprehensively evaluate whether student needs are being met.
“I love getting back into schools as often as possible to work with students and to listen to teachers and staff members. I encourage parents to be active in their child’s school. By working together, we can ensure that our students succeed.”
