YAY KAYLA JOHNSON! Kayla Johnson, a first grade teacher at Arthur Ashe Elementary School, is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored her recently at the school.

YAYWORTHY: Nominator Monica Tolliver said: “Passionate, amazing, caring, selfless, committed, student-focused, empathetic and confident are just a few words that describe Ms. Johnson. She always sends pictures of our children and the cool things they are learning about in class, and it always put the biggest smile on my face to see how engaged the students are. My daughter talks nonstop about Ms. Johnson, how much she loves her and wishes that she could be her second grade teacher also.

“Ms. Johnson makes a positive impact because she goes above and beyond her duties of just being a teacher. Over Winter Break I had a semi-major surgery and Ms. Johnson made a homemade dinner and dessert for my family. I know there were many other things she could have been doing during this time off, but she thought of my family. I believe in giving people their flowers while they can still smell them, and Ms. Johnson definitely deserves this moment of appreciation.”

Thank you for all you do, Kayla Johnson, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
