YAY WHITNEY DORBAND! Whitney Dorband, an instructor in the nurse aid program at the Advanced Career Education Center at Hermitage, is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored her recently at the ACE Center.
YAYWORTHY: Nominator Jane Garitz said: “She is probably the most caring adult that I have ever met. She is never afraid to be there for us when we are having a bad day and need a pick-me-up. I was nervous for our skills assessments and our first clinical [supervised interaction with patients]. She reassured us and made sure that we took a few deep breaths. When we made a mistake, she gave us a hint and said, “It’s OK, let’s try that again.” Also, she is never afraid to work with students’ individualized education programs, and makes accommodations for us. I have never had a teacher like her, or one who better represents Henrico County values. She loves her students like her own children and is honestly the reason why I look forward to going to the ACE Center every day.”
Crystal Sarvay, HCPS educational specialist for health and medical programs, said: “She has stepped up since we have not had a nurse aide instructor at the ACE Center at Highland Springs. She has not only been instructing her two classes in person, but instructing the two classes at Highland Springs virtually during the search for a full time instructor there. She includes the nurse aide students at the ACE Center at Highland Springs virtually in class activities, along with her in-person students. She tries to make them feel included in all that she does and attended the back-to-school night at the ACE Center at Highland Springs to meet with parents and guardians of those students.”
Thank you for all you do, Whitney Dorband, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
