Our brilliant HCPS students earned the highest number of recognitions from the Scholastic Art + Writing competition this year, and you can see their creations on display downtown starting Saturday at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond downtown.

At the high school level, our students tallied 58 Gold Keys, 89 Silver Keys and 146 Honorable Mentions, along with four Gold Key Portfolios, seven Silver Key Portfolios and five Honorable Mention Portfolios. Our middle schoolers won six Gold Keys, seven Silver Keys and 20 Honorable Mentions.

The in-person show will take place at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond (1812 W. Main St.) from Saturday, Feb. 8, through Sunday, Feb. 23, and will feature Gold Key, Silver Key, Art & Writing winners and projections of Honorable Mention works. The center is open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.

Four students from the Center of the Arts at Henrico High School were among the 10 in the region to receive the Gold Key Portfolio Award, while senior Ashley Richardson was one of five students in the region — along with Deep Run junior Eddie Lim — nominated for the prestigious American Visions Award.

Likewise, Douglas S. Freeman senior Genevieve Lin garnered an American Voices Award nomination for her essay writing.

Congratulations to all honored!
