The start of 2025 has seen HCPS schools close for snow, icy roads and an unexpected regional water-related crisis. When the division builds its school-year calendar, it builds in extra time, to account for closures like these, enabling HCPS to close for safety reasons without sacrificing instructional time. The six January closures this year used all the closure days built into the HCPS calendar for 2024-25.

What happens if we must close unexpectedly for more days this school year? HCPS will consider all options to maximize instructional time, including:

  • Remote options (as a class or independently).

  • Converting scheduled half days into full days.

  • Adding minutes to the school day.

Because virtual learning is the division’s first choice, teachers are practicing remote learning with students.

  • To be ready for the possibility of inclement weather, elementary students will now bring their devices (Chromebooks and iPads) to and from school each day.

  • HCPS asks for the help of parents and guardians to ensure that the devices are charged and in backpacks each day.

  •  If your family needs home internet, free Wi-Fi hot spot devices are available. Call your school’s main office for information.

  •  Whenever possible, meals will be available for pickup on remote learning days.

HCPS will notify you as soon as possible if calendar changes are necessary.

Thank you. Inclement weather and schedule changes can be difficult for families and HCPS appreciates your flexibility, patience and support.
