Nominator Erin Henshaw said:

"She encourages girls to do things that are traditionally male hobbies or occupations and makes it cool. Ms. Lewchanin introduces students to machinery and working with their hands to create things. As a hobby or occupation, these are traditionally more fulfilled by male counterparts. She gives her female students, as well as male students, the knowledge and know-how to use very intimidating machinery in her classroom. Ms. Lewchanin very strictly adheres to safety policies that are required to engage in this class. Armed with knowledge and practice, students can confidently approach machinery and tools that they may not have otherwise accessed in their life up to this point. Additionally, she communicates the value of learning a trade for students who may not be a good fit for college. In a world where one size does not fit all after high school, she is a breath of honest and encouraging fresh air!

"Both of my kids speak so highly of her. She was a favorite of my son that is now at Godwin and my daughter in the eighth grade. She has instilled a can-do approach to things that would otherwise be intimidating."

Thank you for all you do, Christina Lewchanin, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
