A great opening to the school year for Henrico County Public Schools got even better with the announcement that the school division was just recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best-In-State Employers for 2024. This marks the second year in a row that HCPS received this prestigious designation.
Honorees were identified on a state-by-state basis, and criteria included in-state, national industry and staff recommendations, as well as working conditions, salary, diversity and more. The full list can be found at https://www.forbes.com/lists/best-employers-by-state.
Henrico County Public Schools employs more than 7,000 staff members, who serve nearly 50,000 students. With the addition of this year’s 4.8% raise for all HCPS employees, every employee’s salary has increased by a minimum of 13% in two years. Since 2012-13, all full-time HCPS employees have seen a total pay increase of at least 49.3%, with teacher pay increasing by at least 60.1%.
HCPS boosted its minimum wage for support staff to $15 per hour last year and $25 per hour for school bus drivers this year. The division also offers bonuses for staff members entering certain roles, teachers who are part of the Opportunity Schools initiative and referrals for new full-time employees.
“We greatly value this award as we understand the critical role that all employees have in the success of our students,” said HCPS Superintendent Amy Cashwell. “We appreciate that each employee brings unique talents and perspectives that enrich our school community to create a brighter future for our students, so it’s terrific to be recognized for these efforts.”
