From bus drivers to school nurses, variety of other positions also available

Henrico County Public Schools is seeking substitute teachers for the 2024-25 school year. The division will hold a job fair Tuesday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Fairfield Area Library. HCPS is also seeking candidates for custodial and maintenance staff, bus drivers, school nutrition staff, school nurses, instructional assistants and classroom teachers.

The division is seeking three categories of substitute teachers:
Daily substitutes have great flexibility. They decide how often they substitute, where and what grade or subject they teach. Effective July 1, pay for daily substitute will increase to $135.26 per day Monday through Thursday and $160.26 on Fridays.
Long-term or “board” substitutes commit to filling one teaching position for at least 21 consecutive days, often to fill in for a teacher on extended leave. Starting July 1, pay for long-term substitutes will increase to $254.72 per day. They are eligible for health care benefits for themselves and their children. HCPS posts these positions individually by school. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree.
Permanent substitutes are assigned at a particular school and substitute wherever needed in that building. Effective July 1, pay for permanent substitutes will increase to $21.88 per hour. Permanent substitutes are eligible for health care benefits for themselves and their children. The positions are posted individually by school.
Please note that retired teachers must wait 90 days from their retirement date to rejoin the school division as a substitute teacher.

HCPS is offering newly hired bus drivers a bonus of up to $3,000, paid in installments throughout the year, when they join the transportation team as full-time drivers. The starting hourly rate for full-time drivers is $22.98 and will increase to $25 on July 1. HCPS also offers safe driver and attendance incentives to drivers already on staff. Extended full-time contracts are available for drivers who wish to work during summer school. Don’t worry if you don’t have bus driving experience — if you’re a qualified driver candidate, you’ll be paid as you train. Candidates for full-time and substitute bus drivers must: be at least 21 years old; have a valid Virginia driver’s license; be able to obtain a CDL Class B instructional permit or hold a CDL Class B license with endorsements in P/S (Passenger Transportation/School Bus) and airbrakes; and pass a physical and a drug test.
