HCPS returns from Spring Break fresh with career opportunities
Students and staff members across Henrico County Public Schools have enjoyed some rest and relaxation during Spring Break, and they’ll be refreshed and ready for the home stretch of the 2023-24 school year when they return on Monday. The school division is also emerging from Spring Break fresh with career opportunities at our next monthly job fair on Tuesday.
This hiring event will take place from 1-5 p.m. at HCPS’ Parham Road offices (1910 E. Parham Road, Henrico, VA 23228). Representatives will be available to discuss openings for custodial and maintenance staff, bus drivers, School Nutrition Services staff, nurses, instructional assistants, substitute teachers and classroom teachers. Positions are available for the rest of the 2023-24 school year, Summer Academy and the 2024-25 school year.
Last August, HCPS was recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best-in-State Employers for 2023. Honorees were chosen based on factors like working conditions, salary, career development, diversity and more.
HCPS has continued to build on this positive work environment with a fast-tracked pay bump for bus drivers that raised their minimum hourly pay rate to $22.98 — about a $4 increase — on March 1. More pay raises are anticipated for all full-time staff as part of the next budget, along with enhanced raises for teachers, licensed instructional staff and bus drivers.
HCPS is offering newly hired bus drivers a bonus of up to $3,000, paid in installments throughout the year when they join the transportation team. HCPS also offers safe driver and attendance incentives to drivers already on staff. Extended full-time contracts are available for drivers who wish to work during summer school. Don’t worry if you don’t have bus driving experience — if you’re a qualified driver candidate, you’ll be paid as you train.
Candidates for full-time and substitute bus drivers must: be at least 21 years old; have a valid Virginia driver’s license; be able to obtain a CDL Class B instructional permit or hold a CDL Class B license with endorsements in P/S (Passenger Transportation/School Bus) and airbrakes; and pass a physical and a drug test.
Teachers and other licensed instructional staff can also earn an additional $3,000-plus annual stipend if hired at one of HCPS’ Opportunity Schools.
There has never been a better time to join our team at Henrico County Public Schools. Can’t make Tuesday’s hiring event? You can call the HCPS Human Resources Department at 804-652-3664 or apply for open positions on our website at https://hcps.info/careers.
