YAY NIA MCSHINE! Nia McShine, a fourth-grade teacher at Ward Elementary, is today's "Yay of the Day" honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored her recently at Ward.

YAYWORTHY:

Nominator Somer Sentz said,

“She deserves a Yay of the Day because of her ability to know and understand her students. Because she understands and knows her students, she is able to get so much out of them socially, academically and behaviorally.

“When my son didn't want to do a writing assignment, she let him have free rein on what he wanted to write about. It turned out to be an amazing writing sample, his best yet, because she allowed him to be himself and his true voice to come through. It has always been a struggle to get him to write, but Ms. McShine allowed him the freedom to be himself. She pushed him when he needed it but stepped back when he needed her to do that. He was so proud of his writing and talks about writing his next piece all the time now because of her."

Thank you for all you do, Nia McShine, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
