HENRICO, Va., Aug. 24, 2023 — As Henrico County Public Schools celebrated an exciting opening week to the 2023-24 school year, the school division was recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best-In-State Employers for 2023.
Honorees were identified on a state-by-state basis, and criteria included in-state recommendations, national industry recommendations and staff recommendations, as well as working conditions, salary, diversity and more. The full list can be found at https://www.forbes.com/lists/best-employers-by-state.
Henrico County Public Schools employs more than 7,000 staff members to serve its nearly 50,000 students. HCPS and other Henrico County employees recently received an 8.2% staff pay raise — the largest divisionwide pay raise in 33 years.
HCPS boosted its minimum wage to $15 per hour, a particularly important measure for some members of the division’s hardworking support staff. The division is also offering bonuses for staff members entering certain roles, teachers that are part of the Opportunity Schools initiative and referrals for new full-time employees.
“It's an incredible honor for HCPS to be recognized as one of the top employers in Virginia, and it's a testament to the job all our staff members do in supporting our students,” said HCPS Superintendent Amy Cashwell. “The school division would not be the same without the dedication of these individuals in classrooms, cafeterias, school buses and everything in between, and HCPS is proud to provide an environment that fosters this type of success and satisfaction.”
