HENRICO, Va., July 12, 2023 — While Aug. 21 will be the day students begin classes, the excitement of the 2023-24 school year starts Aug. 11 and 12 at Henrico County Public Schools’ divisionwide “Back-to-School Kickoff” at Fairfield Middle School. All Henrico County families are invited to attend.

The event gets started Aug. 11 with a Friday evening pep-rally style family festival from 4-8 p.m. Join HCPS for a host of activities, including kids’ activities, a DJ, food trucks and giveaways. Families can register their child for school, talk with representatives from a host of HCPS departments and get information about resources available throughout the school division and in the community.

On Aug. 12, activities will run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and include a three-on-three “Hoop It Up” basketball tournament at the new outdoor basketball complex at Fairfield Middle School. There is no tournament fee for students ages 8-17 participating in the youth division. The fee for participants in the adult division is $150 per team. Space in the tournament is limited and participants should sign up by Aug. 8 at www.hoopitup.com/virginia. The Saturday event will also feature vendors and exhibitors from community organizations and businesses. To learn about being an exhibitor, visit www.tinyurl.com/HoopItUpVendor.
