YAY MARKLEY KAUTZ-SCANAVY! Markley Kautz-Scanavy, a second-grade teacher at Rivers Edge Elementary School, is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored her recently.

YAYWORTHY: Nominator Kristen Arnold said: “She goes above and beyond every single day for every single one of her students. Markley cares deeply about each child in her class, and she advocates for her students in powerful ways. Markley believes in her students and pushes them to reach their full potential. I have seen students truly thrive being in Markley’s class. I moved into the classroom across the hall from Markley when I was only in my second year of classroom teaching, and I learned so much from her. She wasn’t assigned to mentor me, but she is a natural mentor. She absolutely helped me to become the teacher that I am today by simply being herself and the model teacher she is. Of course, she also welcomed all of my questions, let me borrow her creative ideas and resources that I didn’t yet have. Not only is Markley a phenomenal teacher and colleague, she is an amazing friend.

“When she had a student who struggled in many aspects of school, Markley made an effort each day to reach the child and meet him where he needed her. She built a level of trust with the student that allowed him to learn and progress, even though there were factors present that made school so challenging for him. Another time, Markley made a positive impact was when I was going through a difficult time in my personal life, and she was there for me. She stayed up for my late-night phone call on a school night when I needed a friend to lean on. She also paid for a family meal at local restaurant one day so that I could pick it up on my way home and I wouldn’t have to worry about preparing dinner. Markley positively impacts so many around her, but she’s also impacted my life in such a way that I will forever be grateful for.”

Thank you for all you do, Markley Kautz-Scanavy, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
