YAY COURTNEY GIBBONS PLOWCHA! Courtney Gibbons Plowcha, a preschool teacher at Greenwood Elementary School, is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored her recently at the school.
YAYWORTHY: Nominator Tracy Seay said: “She is one of the hardest working teachers I know. She truly cares about each of her students and strives to give them 110% daily! She always goes above and beyond what she is required to do as a teacher. She has been teaching for 21 years and it’s time for her to get recognized for her awesomeness.
“She jumps in whenever needed in any preschool class. I remember when the school had a lockdown due to the weather. Courtney went out of her way to grab all the preschool babies off the bus for dismissal and got them all back inside the classroom for safety. She didn’t have to do that. She also has been on the safety committee at Greenwood for several years and always makes sure things are safe and done correctly.”
Lindsay Schwartz said: “Miss Gibbons Plowcha treats all her preschoolers as a family, regardless of developmental level or diagnosis. She is a wonderfully kind and inclusive teacher. She has the unique challenge of teaching a classroom of preschoolers where some have individualized education programs and some do not. She continually brings out the best in all of her students. I also believe that the students with IEPs learn as much as the ones without them about inclusion and loving each other for who they are. This is evident by the adorable smiling faces of the toddlers in the daily classroom pictures. The impact of learning about inclusion from a great teacher at such a young age is immeasurable and deserving of recognition.”
Thank you for all you do, Courtney Gibbons Plowcha, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
