YAY KATHY CREWS! Kathy Crews, an exceptional education teacher at Short Pump Elementary School, is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored her recently at the school.

YAYWORTHY: Her nominator said: “Ms. Crews is my son’s special education teacher at Short Pump Elementary School. We first met her when we moved back to Henrico County in August 2021. We quickly learned the magnitude of her excellence! My son’s educational journey began when he was four, in another school division. He has been in exceptional education since the first grade. He has sat in many classrooms and had many teachers. While he has never rejoiced at the thought of school, he expresses admiration for Ms. Crews unlike he has for any other teacher.

“Ms. Crews consistently goes above and beyond her classroom duties and fosters growth outside the school building. She extends her kindness and her genuine care for my son through personal communications with me. She has volunteered to stay after school with him to help him with schoolwork. She is actively making a difference in my son’s life and she is simply a good person. If I need help with something at the school and I do not know how to approach it, I know Ms. Crews will assist. I trust her and I am comfortable reaching out to her.

“My son and I do not have the greatest support systems and I am not certain that Ms. Crews knows how much of an impact she is having in our lives. Wendy Mass writes, ‘Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.’ Ms. Crews radiates kindness and devotion to her students. And she does this while looking like a beauty queen.”

Thank you for all you do, Kathy Crews, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
