HENRICO, Va., April 26, 2023 — The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation has named Henrico County Public Schools a national leader in music education for the 24th straight year, extending a remarkable streak of success for the music education programs at HCPS.
The school division has received the honor each year since the music-industry group began producing its list of America’s “Best Communities for Music Education” in 1999.
The program recognizes 830 school divisions across the U.S. that “have made music education part of a well-rounded education.” Criteria for the honor included music education participation rates, facilities, student demographics, knowledge of music education electives and standards for assessing music education, among others.
“To receive this award for the 24th straight year is proof of our school division’s commitment to music education and our success in building upon that foundation,” said Chris Moseley, the school division’s education specialist for performing arts. “The county’s dedication to music and the arts is visible on every level – the students, teachers, administrators and everyone in between – and it’s what makes our programs at Henrico County Public Schools so special.”
The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation is funded by music trade association activities and donations. The foundation works to promote music education as an important part of the core educational curriculum.
