Marcie Shea was first elected as the Tuckahoe District representative on the school board in 2019 and was reelected in 2023. She is passionate about supporting teachers, meeting all students where they are and educating the whole child. During her tenure on the school board, Shea served as both chair and vice-chair of the school board and as a member of the Career and Technical Education Business Advisory Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and Policy Committee. She was also the HCPS board liaison to CodeRVA Regional High School and the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School.
Shea graduated summa cum laude from Samford University with a Bachelor of Science in physics. She also holds a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction from Virginia Tech.
As a former Douglas Freeman High School teacher, Shea taught college prep, honors and Advanced Placement physics. During her time in the classroom, she was recognized by Henrico County for cultivating critical thinking with her students and was a fellow in the national Discovery Education STEM program. Although she is no longer a full-time teacher, Shea continues investing in teaching and learning as a volunteer instructional coach and working one-on-one with high school students.
Shea and her husband have two children who attend Henrico County Public Schools. She says her perspective from being a parent and from the trenches of teaching gives her a unique understanding of what educational policy looks like from the ground level upon implementation. Forever a teacher at heart, Shea uses her experiences to advocate for her school-based colleagues and the students they serve.
