HCPS intervention teams are school-based groups that identify and support students having academic or behavioral difficulties. All schools are required to establish a team, which serves as the primary problem-solving mechanism for all types of academic and behavioral learning issues. This team reviews student data and requests for assistance forms, makes recommendations for Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention placement and monitors responses to intervention.
Intervention Teams
What is the role of intervention teams?
HCPS has 51 schools and program centers implementing the Virginia Tiered System of Support model. These schools have installed positive behavior interventions and support resources and have intervention teams. The teams meet weekly to review academic, behavioral and attendance data, make recommendations for interventions and monitor students’ response to intervention. As stated in HCPS' Strategic Plan, "Destination 2025," "by 2024 all HCPS schools will implement positive behavior interventions and support as evidenced by formal implementation of Virginia Tiered System of Support or a schoolwide behavior plan."
