Gifted Programs Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Elementary School Gifted Resource Service Model

What will elementary gifted student services look like this school year?

Classroom: Elementary students are cluster grouped the year following their gifted identification. Students receive differentiated instruction provided by their classroom teacher and supported through resource services from the Gifted Resource Teacher assigned to their school. Gifted Resource Teachers will also conduct whole class response lessons in all K-2 classrooms to provide opportunities for all students to think critically and creatively while ensuring that a level of enrichment service is offered to each student.

Instruction with GRT: Elementary Gifted Resource Teachers (GRTs) are itinerant teachers serving and supporting two or three elementary schools each week. GRTs provide enrichment units and activities for identified students throughout the school year following our Henrico County Gifted Curriculum Overview. Instructional support is designed to be flexible and may crossover between pull out, push in, or check in services each quarter.
