AUDITIONS for the John Rolfe Middle School Dance Team, THE DANCING JAGUARS, will take place Tuesday, September 5, 2023, Wednesday, September 6, 2023, and Thursday, September 7, 2023, after school until 6 p.m.
You must have a current physical to participate in the audition and it must be dated for the current 2023 -24 school year. Appropriate dance attire for auditions includes leggings, dance shorts, ballet/jazz skirts, fitted tee shirts, and leotards. Leotards must be worn with ballet/jazz skirts, dance shorts, or dance leggings. Appropriate footwear must be worn and are defined as follows: Bare feet, Split-sole or regular dance sneakers, hip-hop dance sneakers, split sole or regular jazz shoes, or character shoes. PLEASE NOTE: street shoes (Sperry, Adidas, Nike, Reebok, Champion, etc.), flip flops, Crocs, boots, heels, and slide-ins WILL NOT be allowed and if dancing in bare feet, socks will not be allowed. Proper dance footwear is essential for proper foot placement and the prevention of foot, knee, and ankle injuries. For further safety measures, the only jewelry that will be allowed are small earrings that do not dangle. All other jewelry, to include nose and belly rings, should be secured in your gym locker or left at home. Hair must be secured away from your face and no gum, candy or canned or glass bottled drinks will be allowed. You may bring your own water bottle, face towel, and fruit.
Students will audition with a total of three (3) dances: two (2) contrasting styles of dance that will be taught and one (1) ORIGINAL 90 second (1 minute 30 second) dance. Choreography found on any social medial or performance video will not be accepted as an audition piece, as it is not considered the student's original work. Any student found in violation of this audition requirement will be disqualified from the audition process. Should any student who makes the team be found in violation of this requirement, that student will be subject to immediate removal from the dance team. Music must be clean and must not exceed 90 seconds (1 minute, 30 seconds). Judging categories for all three dances will include technique, memorization, endurance, and showmanship. No experience is required but great energy and a positive "can do" attitude is mandatory!
