April 22-25 is World Culture Week!

Let’s celebrate the diverse cultures at HHS!  Various clubs will lead activities during lunch this week.  Activities include face painting, games, language activities, and we will host World Language Night on Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00.  

• Tuesday - Wear colors of a flag or a shirt with a flag

• Wednesday - Wear a shirt with words in different languages

• Thursday - Wear something from your culture or something that celebrates another culture 

  • Parade during AIRRTIME

  • Culture Night

• Friday - Friday @The Herm!  Everyone should wear Red and Blue!  Despite our different backgrounds, we are all Panthers!

  • JV and Varsity Soccer Games - tickets are discounted, and Food trucks will be on site!

SOL Testing

Students will participate in the Math SOL on Wednesday.  We will operate in a Secure Testing Environment during the testing window from 9:00 - 12:55.  

• Students scheduled to test will report to their testing location by 9:00 Wednesday.

• Students NOT Testing have two options:

  • Students may report to school and attend a study hall until testing is complete at 12:55

  • Students may remain at home and complete asynchronous assignments for all Day 1 classes

Academic and Career Planning - School Counselors are currently meeting with students individually for Academic and Career Planning and will be verifying all course requests. We will update incomplete course requests at this time as well. Please contact your child's counselor if there are any questions.  

Course Verification Sheets will be coming home this week. Please review, sign, and make any changes if applicable and return to School Counseling by Friday, May 2, 2025. Please remember, the last day to make changes to course requests is May 23, 2025.

Teacher Appreciation Week!

HHS Senior Prom

Prom will be held at The Westin Richmond (6631 West Broad Street)  from 7:00 - 11:00.  Tickets are $40 and available through GoFan.  Tickets will increase to $45 on April 28.  

The Theme is “A Night in Vegas” and we hope to see you there!

• Class of 2025 VDOE Early College Scholars - Students who have earned college credits while in high school through AP and Dual Enrollment and have met other academic achievements are eligible to be Early College Scholars. This program encourages students to take advanced and college-level courses while maintaining a B average throughout their high school career.  We want to recognize those in the Class of 2025, which we do with a Governor’s Seal on their diploma. Completing THIS form confirms a student’s distinction and eligibility by meeting each of the ECS qualifications. Students can return the form to School Counseling. And congratulations to our seniors who have worked so hard throughout these important 4 years at Hermitage High School!

Engage RVA is excited to invite rising seniors in the Richmond area to apply for this year’s Summer Institute on Leadership and Public Service. This immersive two-week program is designed to develop leadership skills through a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on experiences, including a structured leadership curriculum, internships, and collaborative problem-solving exercises. Each year, the Institute focuses on a theme relevant to the greater Richmond community, with this year’s emphasis on Social Justice.

Summer Opportunities

Longwood’s Summer 2025 Dual Enrollment Economics and Personal Finance course will run from June 23 to July 26. Registration is scheduled to open on Monday, March 17, and closes on June 6. $50 Summer 2025 Longwood Dual Enrollment Flyer (includes a registration link and contact information).

Additionally, [LU] will once again offer a Fall 2025 course option. Please keep this in mind as you assist students with registration for next year. Fall registration opens in June, and the online course will run from August 25 to December 12. $50.  Additional details will be available in late Spring.  

KE CAMPS will be running a small program at the Lakeside Park Club in Richmond, VA for children aged 4-12. The camp will operate Monday-Friday the weeks of 6/23, 7/7, 7/14, and 7/28.  Please note that all employees must be at least 16 years of age by the time that camp starts. We are excited to invite rising seniors in the Richmond area to apply for this year’s Summer Institute on Leadership and Public Service. This immersive two-week program is designed to develop leadership skills through a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on experiences, including a structured leadership curriculum, internships, and collaborative problem-solving exercises. Each year, the Institute focuses on a theme relevant to the greater Richmond community, with this year’s emphasis on Social Justice.

The Summer Institute on Leadership and Public Service is committed to empowering high school students to become ethical leaders who understand the impact of public service and civic responsibility. By engaging with current social issues and working alongside peers from various backgrounds, students will gain the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to initiate change and make a lasting difference.

The Summer Institute on Leadership and Public Service will take place on the campus of St. Christopher’s School. The institute will take place June 9-20 (no session on June 19 in recognition of Juneteenth). Each student who completes the program will receive a stipend.

YMCA Summer Camp

Through Camp Tuckahoe, we offer traditional day camp programming designed to provide campers aged 5-14 with the opportunity to explore the outdoors, build lasting friendships, and develop valuable skills in a supportive and fun atmosphere.

As we gear up for the upcoming season, we are currently looking to hire enthusiastic, dedicated, and passionate staff members to join our camp dream team! We are seeking individuals who share our commitment to nurturing and empowering young people through the following roles: 

• Program Assistant: 16+ y/o, no experience required, some childcare/outdoor adventure experience and interest preferred. 

• Counselor: 18+ y/o, 6+ months of programmatic childcare required, outdoor adventure experience and interest preferred. 

• Specialist: 18+ y/o, 6+ months of programmatic childcare preferred, specialty area/outdoor adventure experience and interest preferred. 

  • We're still looking to hire for archery, STEM, and nature specialists!

YMCA of Richmond

Unite STEAM L.I.T. (Leaders in Training) is a four-week, pre-collegiate summer experience for rising 9th-11th grade students. As one of Virginia State University's signature summer programs through the College of Education, this program encourages students to pursue college majors and careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM)-related fields through a program of focused hands-on rigorous academics, enrichment, and career exploration.

Unite STEAM L.I.T. will be held in-person on the campus of Virginia State University from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Mondays - Thursdays from June 2-26, 2025 (with an overnight field trip scheduled during the last week). All classroom supplies and lunch will be provided daily. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a $300.00 stipend.

Times New Roman) from the scholar explaining why he/she would like to attend this program (e.g., what he/she hopes to learn/gain from the program, how the program will inform/impact the academic major chosen in college and/or his/her ultimate career goal, etc.).

Registration ends at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 2nd. Applications will be evaluated, and decisions will be provided the following week. Spaces are limited, so don't delay...sign up today!

• HHS Parent/Student Handbook - Please view this document for the 24-25 school year as it contains pertinent information for the daily functions of the school setting

• Cell Phones - The Commonwealth of Virginia has “Bell to Bell” cell phone restrictions for all students.  HHS will adhere to this policy.  Students are only allowed to have their phone out during class exchanges and lunches.  If a phone is seen outside of these times, it will be confiscated for the duration of the day. 

• Student Drop Off - Parents, please remember that student drop off is at the stadium parking lot. The front parking lot will be blocked from moving forward as additional cars in front of the school disrupts the flow of school buses for students with special needs.  

• Panther Plus - In the event students need additional academic support, Panther Plus is our after school tutoring program.  Please use the form to sign up for additional academic assistance. 

• The Connection - Please visit the HCPS site to create accounts and gain access to PowerSchool, Lunch Account, and/or pay school fees.
