Solar Eclipse
On April 8, areas of the United States will experience a rare astronomical event - a total solar eclipse during which the moon will move between the Earth and the sun, blocking out daylight. In Henrico, we will have a partial solar eclipse from 2-4:30 p.m., with peak coverage expected at 3:19 p.m.

During the eclipse, schools will move physical education classes and other activities indoors.

Due to our open campus, we will be on restricted movement at Henrico HS during this time. This will limit the potential for students to look directly at the sun during the eclipse. Doing so is dangerous and can result in permanent eye damage. Regular sunglasses, swimming goggles and most camera filters are NOT safe for looking directly at the sun.

The following resources may be helpful to families who want to learn more about the solar eclipse, eye safety during an eclipse and local safe viewing opportunities:

Closed lunch update

As a reminder, students will be required to eat their lunches within designated cafeteria areas only. They will not have access to sidewalks or grassy areas outside during lunch breaks. Additionally, we would like to clarify that outside tables will now be reserved as a senior privilege only. Seniors will have the opportunity to sign up for these tables, and more information regarding senior seating sign-ups will be provided soon.

We kindly request that you discuss this change with your students in preparation for April 8th. The expectation is that all students are either at lunch in the cafeteria or at Warrior Time. If students need to be at a different Warrior Time location such as a club meeting or a library event, they must have a pass from the receiving staff member.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

📝A Message for 10th Grade Families:

Henrico County Public Schools continues to work on End-of-Course Writing Performance Portfolios during the 2023-24 school year.  During the fourth quarter, students will complete three writing tasks.  To prepare for the writing, students will be working through a booklet to analyze two texts in class.  Students will receive teacher guidance and support to work through analyzing the readings.  Students will use their reading booklets to complete the essay tasks.  Please note to graduate with a standard or advanced diploma, students need this verified credit in writing.  Essays will be scored by teacher teams over the summer and reported to families in the fall.  Please continue to speak with your child on the importance of doing their best in class and on this portfolio.  Please check in with your child’s teacher on your child’s progress.
