Health and Family Life Education (FLE)

Henrico County Public Schools’ Health curriculum contains age-appropriate Family Life Education (FLE) objectives and activities that are used to promote health literacy, healthy lifestyles and relationships. During the 2023-24 school year, HCPS family life educators and/or allied health professionals will present grade specific FLE content to students in small groups based on grade and gender.

In HCPS, the decision for students to participate in the family life portion of the Health curriculum is left to the parent or guardian. Parents and guardians have the right to review the family life education program content, including written and audio-visual educational materials that will be used.

Families may review the FLE objectives by grade level, submit requests to review the materials, and find the Opt-out form on the HCPS Family Life Education webpage at https://www.henricoschools.us/page/family-life-education/

Please also review the Prevention Project Caregiver Information Form by Freekind ®, a VDOE-approved curriculum that supports Virginia legislation (2020) to eradicate human trafficking.

If you decide to opt your child out of the FLE health curriculum, please complete the form and return it to your child’s teacher or school as soon as possible.

Thank you for entrusting HCPS as a partner in these conversations. We encourage you to talk with your child about these topics before and after they receive the information in school.

About the vision screening on 02/26/24 and make up day 02/27/24 .from 9 am ,by Conexus that takes place in small gym . Also to inform their students if they use Glasses they should bring or wear during the screening. Please free to email or call clinic if you have any questions.

Warrior Recovery Workshops

BIG NEWS!!! Students can now earn back Attendance days by completing seat hours outside of normal school operations! What does this mean for you?

Benefits

  • Allowing some students to earn back days will reduce the number of students who are designated as chronically absent and help schools achieve accreditation.

  • Allowing some students to attend tutoring and complete recovery assignments will improve student grades, allow them to pass their courses (with a 65%)

  • Providing students with the opportunity to receive remediation and additional tutoring in preparation for their EOY SOL examination.

  • Allowing some students to provide tutoring to earn back days will help them achieve the community service seal upon graduation.

Who does this impact?

Students who:

  • are chronically absent.

  • are at risk of being chronically absent.

  • have earned a grade of 64% or lower in any quarter.

  • are currently on the Not Good Standing list for attendance.

  • need additional remediation for their EOY SOL Examinations

  • desire to earn community service hours.

Process

  1. Students will select which Saturday Warrior Recovery Workshops they wish to attend.

  2. Students will sign in at the North Cafeteria, where they will indicate their intentions (Attendance/Grade Recovery, SOL Remediation, or Community Service) and which subject they want to work on.

  3. Students will be given a recovery packet (Attendance/Grade Recovery) or a community service assignment for the session. They are to directly report to their assigned room, where teachers will take attendance.

  4. Teachers will provide supervision and assistance as students complete their recovery packets. Teachers will collect students’ recovery packets at the end of the session and return them to the supervising administrator(s) in the North Cafeteria.

Attendance Information (from Attendanceworks.org)

WHAT YOU CAN DO?

• Talk about the importance of showing up to school every day.

• Help your children maintain daily routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night’s sleep.

• Try not to schedule dental and non-urgent related medical appointments during the school day. • Keep your student healthy but call in to the attendance office if they are sick and can’t come to school

• If your children must stay home because they are sick, make sure they have asked teachers for resources and materials to make up for the missed learning time in the classroom. Check Schoology!!

Attendance matters for Senior Exam Exemption

  • Discuss with your senior NOW! Plan for the year! Attendance and Grades matter!

Reminders of campus SAFETY expectations:

No Ordering Food

Students may not utilize 3rd party ordering companies like Uber eats or restaurant delivery systems. These parties are not vetted by HCPS or Henrico HS and pose a security concern when on campus. Students may not meet delivery drivers on campus or on the outskirts of campus for their own safety. As a reminder, all HHS students receive free breakfast and lunch this year. We also have microwaves in every cafeteria to warm food brought from home. Finally, parents may drop off food for their students in the front office using the appropriate sign in protocols. Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff safe.
