The Annual HCPS Survey is going on now through March 1! Tell us what you think about your experiences in Henrico County Public Schools. Your input (employees, families and students in grades 3-12) will help the school division improve and make important decisions about budgets, staffing and more. Warrior Recovery Workshops
BIG NEWS!!! Students can now earn back days by completing seat hours outside of normal school operations! What does this mean for you?
Benefits
- Allowing some students to earn back days will reduce the number of students who are designated as chronically absent and help schools achieve accreditation.
- Allowing some students to attend tutoring and complete recovery assignments will improve student grades, allow them to pass their courses (with a 65%)
- Providing students with the opportunity to receive remediation and additional tutoring in preparation for their EOY SOL examination.
- Allowing some students to provide tutoring to earn back days will help them achieve the community service seal upon graduation.
Who does this impact?
Students who:
- are chronically absent.
- are at risk of being chronically absent.
- have earned a grade of 64% or lower in any quarter.
- are currently on the Not Good Standing list for attendance.
- need additional remediation for their EOY SOL Examinations
- desire to earn community service hours.
Process
- Students will select which Saturday Warrior Recovery Workshops they wish to attend.
- Students will sign in at the North Cafeteria, where they will indicate their intentions (Attendance/Grade Recovery, SOL Remediation, or Community Service) and which subject they want to work on.
- Students will be given a recovery packet (Attendance/Grade Recovery) or a community service assignment for the session. They are to directly report to their assigned room, where teachers will take attendance.
- Teachers will provide supervision and assistance as students complete their recovery packets. Teachers will collect students’ recovery packets at the end of the session and return them to the supervising administrator(s) in the North Cafeteria.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When and what time are the Warrior Recovery Workshops held?
A: The Warrior Recovery Workshops are held every Saturday from February 17- May 25, 2024 (except for March 30th & April 6th). Warrior Recovery Workshops are broken into two (2) sessions from 9 AM- 12 PM with a short snack break in between.
Q: Can students attend more than one subject per Saturday at Warrior Recovery Workshop?
A: Yes! Students can switch subjects during the interim snack break.
Q: How many hours of additional seat time are required to earn back one day?
A: For every three (3) hours of additional seat time (done through attending Warrior Recovery Workshops), students can earn up to one (1) day back.
Q: How does this benefit students?
A: Students who attend Warrior Recovery Workshops can potentially be removed from the chronic absenteeism list, earn Good Standing, be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities (Prom, athletic events, field trips), and complete recovery packets to improve their grades in classes, and earn community service hours.
Q: What can attending Warrior Recovery Workshops not do?
A: Students cannot use Warrior Recovery Workshops to earn exam exemption or increase grades in a class to over 65%.
Q: Can students receive SOL remediation through the Warrior Recovery Workshop sessions?
A: Yes. Students can receive SOL remediation!
Q: Is there transportation for my student?
A: Transportation will be available from feeder elementary schools (Laburnum ES, Glen Lea ES, Ratcliff ES, Chamberlyn ES).

You can upload candid photos by February 29th, .... Whether it’s an event, a club meeting, students outside of school, or something else, you can submit it through the following process:
- Go to https://www.hjeshare.com/eShare/ (you may also use the Herff Jones eShare app)
- Enter the school code 25338 into the box when prompted
- Follow the steps provided to upload your photo(s).
In about a day, the photos you’ve uploaded will then become available to the yearbook staff. It is important to note that, except for portraits, there is no guarantee of photographs being placed in the yearbook.

Senior Cap & Gown Pictures - Strawbridge Studios will be returning on Monday, February 26th from 9am until Noon to take Cap & Gown pictures for Seniors who were unable to sign up on the 12th. Pictures must be prepaid - only Seniors who have an appointment and an order envelope or paid online will be able to take a picture. Parents will be able to do this through the sign up form, and we will have envelopes in the main office with portrait packages soon. Strawbridge has not provided the sign up link or payment envelopes just yet, but we wanted you all to have the date. We will send info out via ParentSquare when it is available.

AP Students - AP (Advanced Placement) Exams
March 6, 2024 is the final AP ordering deadline to order AP Exams (with an additional $40 late fee per exam) for the 2023-2024 school year. VHSL Foundation Achievement Award- DUE March 15th The VHSL Foundation Achievement Award, a $2,000 scholarship funded and awarded annually by the VHSL Foundation, recognizes 19 senior scholar-athletes and scholar-activity participants who have excelled in the classroom and athletic and academic activities and will attend a post-secondary institution. Savedge Scholarship Award- DUE March 1st The Savedge Scholarship Award, awarded annually by the VHSL, recognizes one college-bound senior who has not only participated and excelled in school publications (magazine, newsmagazine, newspaper, and yearbook) but also demonstrated outstanding personal qualities. This $500 scholarship is a testament to their leadership, writing proficiency, design aptitude, creativity, teamwork, and character. Vito Perriello Citizenship Award- DUE March 15th.Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded during the school year, honoring student-participants who demonstrate outstanding traits of citizenship in their high school career. Only students graduating from a VHSL member school will be eligible for these awards. Each VHSL member school may nominate one student. Students must have previously participated in one or more VHSL activities, which may include serving as an athletic training student aide (ATSA) with a Virginia-licensed athletic trainer within that school, to be eligible for the award. The member school principal must submit all applications to the VHSL office. Applications must be postmarked by March 15. No late applications will be accepted. A statewide committee representing educators and Sports Medicine Advisory Committee representatives will review all nominations and select the winners. Longwood University’s Summer 2024 Dual Enrollment Economics and Personal Finance course
This course is scheduled to run from June 24 to July 27. Registration for the summer course will open at the end of March and will close on June 7; cost is $50.
MAXIMUM FLEXIBILITY
• Are you a night owl? Have a part-time job? Have some free time during the day?
Because it’s completely online, this course gives you the flexibility to do the work when and where it’s most convenient for you. (Just be sure to turn in assignments by the posted deadlines.)
• Take the express route. Successful completion usually takes about 120 hours of reading, studying and completing assignments.
• Condensed, 4-week option
• No-rush registration period. With two months before each session to register, you’ll have plenty of time to consider the options.

Vaccinations for rising seniors (current 11th graders)
Henrico County Public Schools (HCSP) requires documentary proof of the following vaccinations for school attendance* in accordance with Virginia Code §22.1-271.2; §32.1-46; and 12VAC5-110:
● Meningococcal Conjugate (MenACWY) vaccine: A minimum of two doses- the first administered the first administered prior to entering 7th grade and the final administered prior to entering 12th grade- are required. To support HCPS students and their families in receiving these immunizations, HCPS School Health Services is once again partnering with the Richmond Henrico Health Department (RHHD) to provide on- site immunization clinics at every middle and high school, beginning in February and continuing through the Spring.
Henrico High School’s Immunization Clinic is scheduled for March 22; 8:30am - 11:30am.
Attendance matters for Warrior PRIDE Good Standing Status
Good Standing Status establishes common behavior expectations for our students. Good Standing Status takes into consideration grades, behavior and attendance.
To be considered in Good Standing, students must meet the following expectations at the end of Qtr 3:
- Have no more the 12 absences (excused and unexcused)
- Pass 6/8 classes or 80% of the classes on the student schedule
- Zero out of school suspensions
What are the benefits of Good Standing?

Henrico’s Active Minds Chapter would like to remind you that February is National Random Acts of Kindness Month, making it the perfect opportunity to reinforce compassion and empathy in your child. Aviation Scholarship Opportunities -
The Virginia Department of Aviation is accepting applications for three college scholarships coordinated by the agency. The Plentl, Lillard, and Scott scholarships will be awarded to a Commonwealth high school senior who is pursuing an aviation career at a higher education institution. Students may apply to all three scholarships if they are eligible.

Early Dismissals
For an easy Early Dismissal, send a note with your student in the morning. Not only will you be able to skip the Attendance Office line, you will be helping to reduce classroom disruptions.
Your note should have:
- Date
- Student Name
- Time of Dismissal
- Reason for Dismissal
- Parent Signature
- Parent Phone Number
Your student will receive a pass allowing him or her to leave class at the appointed time.
Please note that:
- Dismissals from the Attendance Office end at 3:30pm. Please arrive prior to 3:30 to sign your student out.
- Students who leave campus without pre-approval via note or signed out by an authorized person will be considered skipping.

WHAT YOU CAN DO?
• Talk about the importance of showing up to school every day.
• Help your children maintain daily routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night’s sleep.
• Try not to schedule dental and non-urgent related medical appointments during the school day. • Keep your student healthy but call in to the attendance office if they are sick and can’t come to school
• If your children must stay home because they are sick, make sure they have asked teachers for resources and materials to make up for the missed learning time in the classroom. Check Schoology!!

Reminders of campus SAFETY expectations:
Unauthorized areas
Students must stay out of unauthorized areas during school hours. These include:
- Azalea sidewalk- facing Azalea Ave
- Athletic Areas- Football field, baseball ect.
- All parking lots
- Off campus- walking off campus without permission and returning may result in a student search
No Ordering Food
Students may not utilize 3rd party ordering companies like Uber eats or restaurant delivery systems. These parties are not vetted by HCPS or Henrico HS and pose a security concern when on campus. Students may not meet delivery drivers on campus or on the outskirts of campus for their own safety. As a reminder, all HHS students receive free breakfast and lunch this year. We also have microwaves in every cafeteria to warm food brought from home. Finally, parents may drop off food for their students in the front office using the appropriate sign in protocols. Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff safe.

Please make sure your phone numbers and email addresses are correct.
It is also very important for you to update your custodial and non-custodial contact information, because this is where you put the people who are authorized to pick up your child from school. If the name of the person picking your child up is not in PowerSchool, you will be delayed.
