STUDENT AND STAFF SURVEY WINDOW:  OCTOBER 2 - 13, 2023

Henrico County Public School’s Strategic Plan, Destination 2025, includes strategies for providing all students with opportunities to engage in rigorous learning experiences.  Towards this effort, a partnership has been established with Equal Opportunity Schools (EOS) to support the school division’s efforts to increase student enrollment in rigorous courses, including Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment (DE), and International Baccalaureate (IB) classes.

To support this work, your high school child will be asked to participate in a voluntary EOS School Culture Survey, which will be administered between October 2-13, 2023.  The survey will be taken at school and will take approximately 40-50 minutes.  Surveys will ask students about their self view, learning mindset, sense of belonging, school climate, and advanced coursework enrollment and support.  Results generated from the survey will provide schools with data and trends on information, expectations, and belonging in accelerated coursework.  Student responses will not be anonymous to school administrators, but will remain confidential.  School teams will use this data to surface student potential, interests, and perspectives on school and course offerings.

If for any reason you do not want your child to take the survey, please fill out the opt out form by September 29, 2023 to opt your child out of the survey.

Henrico HS Opt Out Form

If you have any questions, please contact 228-2700 to speak to Ms. Phelps.

New Football Game Protocols- this includes JV home games

Whether they are learning in classrooms or cheering on teams at a sports event, the safety of our students is our greatest shared responsibility as a school community. This year, we’ve enhanced security measures on campus with new weapons scanners and additional school security staff. With a similar focus, we are also updating safety protocols at home football games. The temporary measures outlined below will help ensure the games are safe, family-friendly community events.

  1. An adult must accompany attendees younger than 18 years old and enter the stadium through two identified lines. Security personnel will screen all guests using metal detectors and wands at all entry points.

  2. Adults supervising minors must present a photo ID for entry to the game. Guests will not be admitted if the identification does not match the name used to purchase a ticket via GoFans. A refund for ticket costs will be given.

  3. All fans must sit in the stands rather than congregate in open areas.  You are still welcome to enjoy the concession stand and use restrooms.

  4. After the game, all drivers should exit from the parking lot gate closest to the attendance loop.

  5. Parents and guardians picking up students should arrive beginning at 9:30 p.m.

We are hoping for a big crowd to cheer on our Warriors! We encourage the entire Henrico High School community - students, families, alums, and future Warriors - to attend wearing their green and gold. Thank you for your support in ensuring that all community events remain positive and fun!

This will be done to ensure a learning environment free of unnecessary disruption. The list of unauthorized electronic devices includes, but is not limited to, cell phones.

Cell phones are required to be out of visible sight, silenced, or in airplane mode, during scheduled class time.  Failure to comply with the policy mentioned above will result in the following actions:

Second Offense Parents/guardians contacted, the device may be confiscated, but a parent/guardian must come retrieve the device, and other disciplinary consequences may apply. Third Offense The student may receive in-school suspension. Confiscation of phone, parent/guardian contact, and a disciplinary infraction entry will be placed into the student’s conduct record.

US Military Service Academy Information Session

The U.S. military service academies are some of the most prestigious and rewarding universities in the country. Acceptance to these academies differ from the application process of other universities and have additional application requirements, including a nomination letter from a Member of Congress or the Vice President and making it through the nomination stage before being accepted to an academy.

To ensure you have the information you need to apply to West Point, the Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, or Merchant Marine Academy, a Service Academy Day is being held at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond on Sept. 30 from 9 to 11 a.m. During the event, students will receive a comprehensive overview of the U.S. service academies and their corresponding admission processes. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with officials from the academies and ask questions.

Page Program

The Henrico County Registrar’s office has launched their registration process for the 2023 Student Election Page program.   As you may be aware, the registrar's office places high school students in precincts across the county on Election Day to assist with the voting process.  I am hoping you will share this information with your students aged 16-18.

Students are assigned a precinct for either the morning (5 am to 12:00 pm) or afternoon (12:00 pm to 8:00 pm.)    Pages are of great assistance with line management, looking up voters, keeping voting booths clean and handing out stickers.  They will be assigned to a precinct close to their home although we often have needs in precincts in areas of the county with low student page interest.  We are asking on the form for pages to consider traveling further if willing.  Pages will receive community service hours for their time and valuable knowledge of the electoral process.

To participate in the Henrico County Election Page Program, a page must be:

  • U.S. Citizen

  • 16-18 years old by November, General Election Day

  • Henrico County Resident

  • Complete the online application

The link to website and page application can be found here:  https://henrico.us/services/studentpage/

The VDH is currently recruiting students for a new youth-led council as part of a state-wide public health initiative. Applications for this Youth Advisory Council are due

September 30th, at which point we will transition into a rolling admissions process for applications not submitted by the 30th. This would be a great opportunity for students who are interested in working with the state on matters of public health and community involvement. The council gives students aged 14-21 the chance to advocate for and collaborate on a variety of public health policies and/or nonprofit projects.
