  • School Lab Safety Agreement

  • Compulsory Attendance

  • Media Denial Form

  • Home Internet Access

Please make sure your phone numbers and email addresses are correct.

It is also very important for you to update your custodial and non-custodial contact information, because this is where you put the people who are authorized to pick up your child from school. If the name of the person picking your child up is not in PowerSchool, you will be delayed.

Getting Started with ParentSquare

You will see messages coming to you from ParentSquare, our new tool for communication. ParentSquare translates English into several languages. You can respond in your native language, and the message will translate into English.

Here is some info about how you can sign up for ParentSquare.

Also, check out Setting your language preference in ParentSquare.

Weapons Scanner update

The weapons scanning process has improved greatly every day and that’s all thanks to the preparation of our students. Thank you so much for having conversations about how to make this process run smoothly. We went from ending at 9:28 am on Day 1 to 9:10 Day 2, 9:05 Day 3, and 9:00 on Day 4! Our Warriors are the best!

If we continue to have our laptops, eyeglass cases and big ring binders out prior to scanning, we will get through the process efficiently and effectively everyday.

Traffic Plan

Please continue to use the traffic plan below when dropping off or picking up:

Image

Bus ramp

All buses have been instructed to drop off at two points on the bus ramp. Please discuss with your student the importance of being patient if buses need to wait in a short line to drop off students at the drop off point that will funnel them to the scanners.

Parent Drop Off Loop

All parents dropping students off by car must do so entering through Huntington Ave at the drop off loop near the Attendance Office. Students will be funneled to the scanners inside the doorway. There is no dropping off in any other location on campus.

Student Drivers

All student drivers must enter through the Attendance Office entrance and proceed through the scanners.

Main Office Entrance

All visitors must enter using the Main Office and through the scanners. The Main Office is NOT a student entrance.

ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) 2023-24

Image

  • Do you know a language other than English and are already bilingual?

  • Are you proficient in speaking AND writing that language for a Seal of Biliteracy?

  • Are you interested in taking a proficiency test which could place you into a higher level language course?

If you answered Yes to these three questions, we have an option for you! The AAPPL proficiency test measures your fluency in a language other than English. The test costs $15.00 and is administered at your school in the fall and spring. You must pay for the test before you register. By reaching a high level of proficiency, you can earn credit for the language you already know. Contact Mrs. Kuzemchak in 501, your counselor or Mrs. Gooden (beside the library) if interested.

August 30th is the test day for placement this fall.

From the Attendance Office

Early Dismissals

For an easy Early Dismissal, send a note with your student in the morning. Not only will you be able to skip the Attendance Office line, you will be helping to reduce classroom disruptions.

Your note should have:

  • Date

  • Student Name

  • Time of Dismissal

  • Reason for Dismissal

  • Parent Signature

  • Parent Phone Number

Your student will receive a pass allowing him or her to leave class at the appointed time.

Please note that:

  • Dismissals from the Attendance Office end at 3:30pm. Please arrive prior to 3:30 to sign your student out.

  • Students who leave campus without pre-approval via note or signed out by an authorized person will be considered skipping.

Tardies Have Consequences

Did you know that if your student misses one minute of class per day, he or she will have missed 3 hours of instruction during the school year? That is why we encourage our students to arrive to school on time. Students who are consistently late to school will receive consequences as determined by administration.

Please help your student arrive to school and to all classes on time.

Attendance is Important

Excessive Unexcused Absences can violate the Virginia Compulsory Attendance Law. Please be sure to notify the school within 24 hours of your child’s absence by phone and provide a professional note if applicable. For more information, please see page 30 of the Student Code of Conduct.

Please be aware that absences due to being out of town must be pre-approved by an administrator to be excused. Notes received regarding absences due to personal reasons and family illness will be reviewed for approval.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Attendance Office at 228-2700 ext. 1.

After both these items are completed, students can go to Mr. Williams, Admin Intern, to receive a parking pass. This parking pass must be visible on the car. Failure to complete this process may result in towing of unauthorized vehicles. Thank you for your cooperation in this process.

Reminders of campus SAFETY expectations:

Unauthorized areas

Students must stay out of unauthorized areas during school hours. These include:

  • Azalea sidewalk- facing Azalea Ave

  • Athletic Areas- Football field, baseball ect.

  • Off campus- walking off campus without permission and returning may result in a student search

No Ordering Food

Students may not utilize 3rd party ordering companies like Uber eats or restaurant delivery systems. These parties are not vetted by HCPS or Henrico HS and pose a security concern when on campus. Students may not meet delivery drivers on campus or on the outskirts of campus for their own safety. As a reminder, all HHS students will receive free breakfast and lunch this year. We also have microwaves in every cafeteria to warm food brought from home. Finally, parents may drop off food for their students in the front office using the appropriate sign in protocols. Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff safe.
