  • Partnered with community organizations to provide food assistance, learning supplies and other resources to support families and student learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • HCPS is partnering with the Henrico Education Foundation to explore, establish and strategically support full-service community school sites within the school division.

Future State Hub Spoke Model

  • As of 2020, HCPS had four Community Learning Centers, at Glen Lea, Laburnum and Ratcliffe elementary schools, and at L. Douglas Wilder Middle School. These schools provide extended-day programs, SCAN mental health specialists, and family and community engagement advocates. Each school also has site-specific programs for student and families.

Evidence: 2021-22

  • HCPS opened the school division’s first telehealth clinic at Glen Lea Elementary School to provide onsite medical and dental services to students. Partnerships with Henrico Education Foundation and Children’s Hospital of Richmond support this ongoing project.

  • Designed and implemented a “Students of Promise” program at Laburnum Elementary School, which merged with the current Community Learning Center for students with gifted potential in grades 3-5.

  • HCPS is developing plans for the Oak Avenue Complex, in the old Highland Springs High School building, which will be the division’s first full-service community school.

HCPS Family and Community Engagement staff members participated in 20 events to gather stakeholder and community input on needs, aspirations and expectations for the Oak Complex.
