Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to increase the enrollment of historically marginalized students in gifted, advanced course and academically oriented enrichment programming, and provide the necessary support for them to succeed.

2022

Objective:
Students will have LifeReady experiences during their educational careers that lead to college or career readiness.

Evidence 2020 – 2021

  • A comprehensive plan to expand access to rigorous high school courses has been established.  There has been an increase of historically marginalized students in advanced placement courses and dual enrollment courses. We continue to expand access to dual enrollment courses beyond our two ACA Specialty Centers.

  • Seat allocations in our current IB model have been expanded based on maximization of current staffing as we explore other ways to allow additional students into the program.

  • HCPS established a long range comprehensive plan for IB Programming at the middle school level.

  • Professional Learning utilized a $14,000 grant from the IB Word Organization to train all sixth grade English Language Arts Teachers in the spring of 2022 at Tuckahoe, Fairfield, and Moody Middle Schools.

  • Foundational gifted and talented response lessons were developed and used in all K-1 classrooms to help identify potential gifted attributes in students.

  • The HOPE scale was utilized as another tool as part of the gifted selection criteria to better capture underserved English Learning Populations.

  • The cluster grouping model and associated professional learning was established in grades K-5 to better meet the comprehensive needs of our gifted learners.

  • The “Kids of Promise” Pilot After School Program was established at Laburnum Elementary to serve students.  The plan is to scale beyond one school for 22-23.
