Staffing Update for 2025-2026
As the teacher and school hiring season begins, we are excited to share that Greenwood is already fully staffed for next year! Our staff retention rate remains one of the highest in the state, thanks in large part to our supportive PTA and community. We are so grateful for the many ways you appreciate our staff. In March, you can continue to show your support by writing notes of encouragement, volunteering, or simply sharing words of appreciation. We love Greenwood!
Mrs. Trentham – Thank You
This week will be the final week before our Innovative Learning Coach, Mrs. Trentham, begins her maternity leave. We are forever grateful for her dedication, creativity, and the impact she has made on our students and staff every day! During her leave, Mr. Alfonso Favale at ajfavale@henrico.k12.va.us will step in to continue implementing Henrico’s vision of life-ready learning and innovation.
5th Grade Families – Read to Run
Thank you for continuing to support your Gator by encouraging them to read for 20 minutes every day. Each 5th grader has received three new books to keep, with the goal of finishing them all by the end of March. This initiative not only builds strong reading habits but also fosters a love for literature while promoting healthy habits through the shoe reward program. Your encouragement at home truly makes a difference!
Arrival Reminders
If you need to get out of your car to open the door for your child, please park in a designated space. To keep our car line moving efficiently, pull all the way up before dropping off your child. Once you pass our crossing guard, your child should be ready to exit the car independently. Please do not wait until your child is directly in front of the school to unload. As you approach campus, ensure your child is "car drop-off ready" with their backpack and school supplies in hand. We begin unloading at 7:10 AM and stop at 7:40 AM—thank you for helping us start the school day smoothly!
Henrico County Public Schools Survey – CLICK HERE
Your feedback is invaluable! Survey results help HCPS leaders shape new programs, enhance current opportunities, and allocate resources effectively. Your voice makes a difference!
All In Tutoring
Our All In Tutoring program continues this week and will end at 3:30 PM on scheduled dates. Starting in March, with the addition of 20 extra instructional minutes per day, tutoring will extend until 3:50 PM.
Friday, February 28: Math Award Ceremony
We look forward to celebrating students who have demonstrated a love for math! Join us at 7:20 AM in the gym as we recognize their hard work and achievements.
Friday, February 28: Home Connection Glow Report
Thank you, families, for completing the parent section of the Glow Report with your child over the weekend. We kindly ask that all families return the Glow Report by Friday, March 7. This report serves as a meaningful tool to spark conversations about school at home, encouraging students to reflect on their progress and share their learning experiences. By engaging in this process together, we strengthen the home-school connection and help students take ownership of their growth.
Friday, February 28: Spilling the Tea with Mr. Stein (Preschool Families Only)
We invite preschool families from Ms. Katherine Miller's and Mrs. Tarsha Ashford's classes to join Mr. Stein and Ms. Eberhard for an important discussion about upcoming kindergarten changes for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, gain insight into what to expect, and ensure a smooth transition for your child. Your participation is key in helping us shape a strong foundation for our future kindergarteners!

Friday, February 28: Greenwood Gators & VCU Rams Basketball Spirit Night @ 7 PM (Doors Open at 6 PM)
With only 30 tickets left, don’t miss this slam-dunk night of fun and fundraising! Students will have the chance to participate in a pregame high-five tunnel with VCU players—arrive by 6:30 PM at the VCU tent (middle concourse near Broad Street concessions). Tickets are assigned and sent digitally. Let’s show our Greenwood Gator spirit and support our PTA fundraiser!
March 3 – March 26: 20 Extra Instructional Minutes
As announced by Henrico County Public Schools, all schools will extend their instructional day by 20 extra minutes from March 3 – March 26. Greenwood will use this additional time from 2:00 – 2:20 PM in a structured learning block called “W.I.N.” (What I Need). During this time, teachers will work in small groups to provide targeted instruction, reinforcing key concepts and addressing individual student needs. These 20 minutes will not be used for recess or additional planning time but instead serve as a focused intervention period to close learning gaps and ensure all students are set up for success. WIN!
Friday, March 7: Shine Your Light Award Ceremony
We are excited to honor both students and staff who have gone above and beyond to shine their light and make a lasting impact on the Greenwood community. Join us at 7:20 AM in the gym as we celebrate their dedication, kindness, and leadership!
Friday, March 7: Spilling the Tea with Mr. Stein
Join Mr. Stein and Reading Specialist Mrs. Foster for a special edition of Spilling the Tea focused on literacy and student growth!
