90s

Rock the 90s Families,

As we enter the third marking period, I wanted to share a few important updates regarding our school play, Rock the 90s.

We expect all participants to attend rehearsals every Tuesday morning in the music room. Due to low participation, we will no longer hold Wednesday rehearsals in the third marking period. This makes each Tuesday’s practice essential, and students must arrive before 7:25 AM, ready to act. During rehearsals, students will be split into two groups to work on their scripts and performance skills. Scripts will be allowed until March 1, but after that, all lines must be memorized.

This week, we informed students that everyone will be responsible for singing Are You Gonna Go My Way, Wonderwall, and Always Be My Baby. These songs are available in our Schoology Group (Rock the 90s). Now that students are bringing their devices home daily, we encourage them to practice at home. Consistent practice will help build their confidence and ensure they are performance-ready. The more they rehearse, the more natural and engaging their stage presence will be.

We will hold after-school practice on Wednesday, March 19,  Wednesday March 26 and Wednesday, April 23 from 2:00 - 3:30 PM.  These will take place in the gym from 2:00 - 3:30 PM. As we get closer to those dates, we will share more details. Please know that parents will have to pick their actor up on time as transportation is not provided. These extra rehearsals are critical because they allow us to refine staging, choreography, and transitions in a full-length run-through, ensuring a polished final performance.

As we approach the show, we plan to feature students on the morning announcements to promote the play. Additionally, students will have opportunities to sing in the hallways on a Tuesday and/or Friday morning—a favorite tradition that helps build excitement and prepares them for performing in front of an audience. Your student will be a rock star at the school.

We also have a morning club in the third quarter dedicated to creating our stage backgrounds. At some point, we may reach out for any additional props or materials that could help bring our set design to life. We are also excited to share that the Advanced Dance Team will be performing in our school play in one of our final scenes. This is a collaborate play!

Finally, please mark your calendars for our dress rehearsal on May 1, 4:00 - 6:30 PM at Holman Middle School and our evening performance will be May 2, 6:00 - 7:00 PM.  As we get closer, we will provide more details about the big show, including tickets, attire, parent volunteers, snacks/drinks, and logistics. Thank you for your support—we can’t wait to see our students shine on stage!
