We are thrilled to unveil the much-anticipated teacher placements for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year next weekend on August 12-13. We want to express our gratitude for the tremendous effort and collaboration that went into creating these rosters. Our dedicated team, including counselors, instructional coaches, content area specialists, previous teachers, and administrators, worked tirelessly to ensure the best possible learning experience for all our students. The process of developing teacher placements involved careful consideration of the unique needs of each student. Our goal is to foster an environment where every student can flourish and reach their full potential.

We are thrilled to share an exciting educational enhancement for the upcoming school year. Beginning in 2nd and 3rd grade, your child will have the privilege of benefiting from the expertise of two dedicated teachers. One teacher will be specialized in math, science, and social studies, while the other will focus on reading and writing/English instruction. 

As our students progress to 4th and 5th grade, they will experience a unique grouping system. They will be organized into homerooms based on their house, fostering a sense of camaraderie and belonging. Throughout the day, they will travel together with their house for lunch, recess, assemblies, and LAMPS (Library, Art, Music, PE, School Counseling). Furthermore, our 4th and 5th graders will continue to enjoy the advantage of two teachers, each offering targeted support to cater to their specific academic needs. This well-rounded approach not only enriches the learning experience but also nurtures essential social and intellectual skills, preparing our students for future academic endeavors. We believe that this progressive model will empower our students to thrive and achieve their full potential while embracing a sense of unity within our school community. 

We believe that departmentalizing and having more than one teacher for our students serves multiple purposes, each designed to enhance their educational experience. Firstly, this approach provides our students with the opportunity to interact with more teachers and classmates. This expanded interaction fosters a sense of community, collaboration, and diverse perspectives, enriching their overall learning journey. Our teachers are committed to seeing every child as "our students" rather than "my students." This mindset shift reinforces the idea of collective responsibility and shared success, ensuring that all students receive the attention and support they need to thrive. Furthermore, this change in our action plan enables our teachers to connect with a broader range of students and their families. Building these relationships not only enhances communication, but also strengthens the support network for each child's academic and personal growth. Perhaps most importantly, this new approach prepares our students for their transition to middle school. By experiencing different teaching styles and subject-specific instructors, our students will become more adaptable and resilient, better equipped to handle the changing academic landscape as they progress in their education.

Our teachers have embraced continuous professional growth, attending summer trainings, and dedicating themselves to extensive reading in their specific content areas. This laser-focused commitment to improving their expertise ensures that they deliver the highest quality of education to our students. Another significant advantage of departmentalization is the ongoing planning support our teachers receive throughout the year from specialists, instructional coaches, counselors, and administrators in their respective content areas. This collaborative approach fosters innovative teaching methods, encouraging teachers to explore new strategies and incorporate the latest research into their lesson plans. Furthermore, our teachers' dedication to seeking additional professional endorsements and specialization in their content areas demonstrates their passion for providing the best possible learning experiences for our students. Their constant pursuit of knowledge and growth elevates the standard of education in our school.

As a result of departmentalization, our teachers have reported higher job satisfaction, leading to a happier and more motivated staff.  We truly have the best staff in Virginia! This positive outlook directly translates into the classroom, where teachers are inspired to design student-centered learning experiences that cater to each child's unique needs and strengths.
