| MISSION Elko Middle School is a comprehensive middle school in Henrico County Public Schools. ACADEMICS- ELKO LEARNING LAB CREDIT RECOVERY PROGRAM | The Elko Learning Lab offers a program that allows students to recover credits from their first semester if they were unsuccessful. This program covers the Standards of Learning (SOLs) from the first semester and includes assessments to ensure that students have mastered the required content. All necessary materials can be found on the content teacher’s Schoology page. This opportunity is available only during the third quarter. I strongly encourage your students to take advantage of this chance if they need to recover from the first semester. The work can be completed at home, so students do not need to stay after school to participate. However, they are welcome to attend in person if they prefer. Our goal is to provide students with opportunities for success. If you’re interested in enrolling in this program, please contact your student’s school counselor. Please note that this program is intended solely for grade recovery, not for enrichment. STUDENT PICK UP | Please make sure your PowerSchool information is updated for individuals authorized to pick up students. If the individual is not listed in PowerSchool, the student will not be released to that person. |
ATTENDANCE UPDATES | Contacts/Pick-up Lists: Please make sure your student’s pick-up list is up to date by updating the Contacts listed in PowerSchool. You can do this by logging in to your Parent Portal account. Anyone coming to pick up a student for early dismissal MUST be listed in PowerSchool. If someone is not listed in PowerSchool, we will not be able to call the student down. Attendance: We are seeing an increase of absences due to students being out of town. Please keep in mind that absences due to being out of town are unexcused. When a student reaches 5 unexcused absences, the parent/guardian will be contacted to schedule an attendance meeting. This will also occur when a student reaches 10 unexcused absences. Please refer to our Attendance Flier for information regarding reporting absences, early dismissals, and attendance letters. Please note that attendance letters are sent out regarding both excused and unexcused absences, as well as suspensions. EARLY DISMISSAL REMINDER: The cut off time for early dismissals is 2:30pm. Transportation: If your student’s bus is running late, please refer to the Parent Portal Bus App or contact the Transportation Office at 804-261-9401. | DID YOU KNOW: The Learning Lab is OPEN. It will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays either before school (7-8am) or after school (3:30 to 4:45pm). Students can receive tutoring or homework. This is a great opportunity for your student to get the extra they need to succeed.
