| MISSION Elko Middle School is a comprehensive middle school in Henrico County Public Schools. ATTENDANCE UPDATES | Attendance: We are seeing an increase in absences due to students being out of town. Please keep in mind that absences due to being out of town are unexcused. When a student reaches 5 unexcused absences, the parent/guardian will be contacted to schedule an attendance meeting. This will also occur when a student reaches 10 unexcused absences. Please refer to our Attendance Flier for information regarding reporting absences, early dismissals, and attendance letters. Please note that attendance letters are sent out regarding both excused and unexcused absences, as well as suspensions. EARLY DISMISSAL REMINDER: The cut off time for early dismissals is 2:30pm. | Course Selection The course selection window for next year is open! It will remain open until 11:59pm on Sunday, January 26th. Please log into PowerSchool to look at your student’s course selections. You must use the website version of PowerSchool to view course requests, you cannot use the app. Here are directions about how to select classes: Course Request Selection through Parent Portal 7th Grade Field Trip This year all 7th grade Elko students have the opportunity to visit one of our three ACE centers in Henrico. The ACE centers are focused on helping our students develop job skills and start on one of the 40 career paths that Henrico County offers. Elko students will be able to apply to the ACE centers their 8th grade year. Your student received a field trip permission form for the ACE centers during 8th block today. We are allowing students to sign up for the session they want to attend on a first come first serve basis. You will sign the front of the form to give your student permission to attend the field trip and then you and your student will complete the back of the form to let us know what session they would like to attend. Please contact Dr. Swingen or Ms. Flowers for more information. Elko Learning Lab Learning Lab is a chance for students to receive in person help for classes that they are struggling with. The Learning Lab will start on Tuesday, November 12th. It will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays either before school (7-8am) or after school (3:30 to 4:30pm).
