two students and a sub

It’s time to start considering your summer plans!  We wanted to share with you the changes for HCPS Summer Academy 2024.  There is a lot of information below, so thank you in advance for reading the details.

Summer Academy is by invitation only for currently enrolled Henrico County students, so if you receive a packet by Monday, March 11th, your child has been invited.  If you would like for them to attend, please complete the front and back of all pages shared with you and return to school as soon as possible.   We will start enrolling those invited who have returned their packets beginning on Monday, March 11th and registration closes on April 19.  Colonial Trail students will attend Nuckols Farm Elementary.   There are two options for those students invited:

Option 1: Six-week session, June 10-July 18, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Option 2: 3-week session, July 1-July 18, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
(No classes June 19 or July 4.)

Summer Enrichment course registration begins Monday, March 18 and ends April 19 for ALL currently enrolled students who are rising 1st through rising 5th graders.  Colonial Trail Students will have the opportunity to attend enrichment classes at Shady Grove Elementary.  We will send registration forms through ParentSquare, they will be available on schools’ websites, and printed copies will be in each school’s office beginning on Monday, March 11; however, the link won’t be active until the morning of Monday, March 18. Elementary Enrichment course seats are limited and parents are encouraged to register early.

Rising Grade 6 students (current fifth graders) will attend the session locations assigned to their feeder middle school locations.  The same course curriculum is taught during each session.  As a result, students should only register for one session.  The registration window is open from March 11 through April 19. Math support program is by invitation only.  The study skills program is available to any rising 6th grade students.

ESL Summer Academy and ESL Summer Enrichment will be offered to select students already attending HCPS.  Extended-day ESL Newcomer Summer Academy, open for newcomer level 1 English learning students, will take place for five weeks with a focus on developing English language skills and academic vocabulary in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students will also be provided opportunities to engage with language through music, art, STEM, physical activity, and social-emotional learning.  ESL Summer Enrichment will be offered for four hours per day for four weeks with a focus on building language and academic skills. It is intended for level 1-2 English learners who have been in US schools for less than three years.

Registration forms will be sent home to those who qualify through their ESL teacher with more information. English learning students who do not qualify for ESL Summer Enrichment may be selected to register for the summer academy.
