We hope to see you tonight for International Night & 3rd grade's performance! There will be 3rd grade artwork and science reflections on display as well as 2nd grade country research projects!
We may have had 5 days off, but we didn’t miss a beat! Three of our 5th graders represented Carver with their Henrico History Project last night, and our Kindergarten Cougars are learning how to use the Code & Mice to catch a sneaky gingerbread man!
We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! When we return, we'll be gearing up for our International Night on Thursday, December 17th at 6:00! We hope you'll join us! If you'd like to share your family's traditions or to RSVP, please scan the QR code to sign up!
Melinda Coby and Manuela Brown were recognized at the HCPS FACE event for their volunteering efforts to support Carver. We thank them for always lending a hand to support the students and staff.
We are very excited to share that this year's Teacher of the Year is one of our first grade teachers, Mrs. Ahearn! Here is what her nominator had to say- "Michelle is an excellent team leader and colleague. She works incredibly hard every day and is a joy to work with. Michelle is also a CCT, a mentor for new teachers, hosts a student from high school, AND is going for her National Board Certification. She does all of this with positivity and kindness. I am so impressed with her and what she can accomplish daily! She is remarkable, and I am very glad I get to work with her! " We are thrilled to have her talent with us here at Carver and think she is an excellent candidate for Henrico's Teacher of the Year.
STEAM Night was a huge success! We hope everyone that was able to join us had a great time connecting fairy tales to STEAM. We would also like to offer a special thank you to Godwin Robotics & Deep Run Robotics for their student engagement and to Ms. Coby, Ms. Sutor, and Rudy's Exotic Mushrooms and Produce for providing snacks for the event!
The Cougars have had a lot of fun celebrating Halloween and our favorite book characters!
On Wednesday, we'll have our Cougar of the Month Celebrations for October. October's ROAR expectation of focus was "Own Your Behavior" which is our Ordit house. Students own their behavior when they're honest, accountable, trustworthy, and demonstrating integrity.
As National Principals Month comes to an end, we want to thank Dr. Budny for all she does as our leader here at Carver. We are grateful for her student-centered, solutions-driven leadership!
Trunk-or-Treat is tomorrow night!Friday, October 25

The fun continued today as staff and students wore and brought things that represent non-screen activities we enjoy. There were athletes, bakers & chefs, karate kids, music fans, jewelry makers, pet lovers, & readers! What a fun week! #DigCitWeek @HCPS_Innovates
There was orange everywhere as we took a stand against bullying yesterday! 🧡💙❤️💚💛 Today, our Digital Detectives showed up ready to problem solve online! Tomorrow’s the final day of #DigCitWeek! Dress up or bring something to represent a non-screen activity! @HCPS_Innovates
We're celebrating Digital Citizenship
Week at Carver, and I spy silly socks! We leave digital footprints with every click, share, and post, so let's be aware like Ariwo and stay safe online! @HCPS_innovates #DigCitWeek 💚
Yesterday was Walk & Roll to School Day! Check out our Cougars making their way in with a high five from Officer Daly. I spy a special Cougar, too!
Tuesday's House Party was a huge success! It was great having so many families join us to learn a little more about our ROAR houses. Families practiced perseverance like Rugido with cup stacking challenges, used Code & Go mice to learn the Ordit traits, played freeze-dance to show self-control like Ariwo, and made cards to be compassionate like Rosnar. If you were unable to join us, your student will bring their house shirt home TODAY! We hope to see everyone showing their house pride tomorrow for our first House Unity Day!
We hope you'll join us Tuesday for our House Party! We'll share information about our new house system, will have activities throughout the building, and will end the night with glow sticks & music! Students in attendance will go home with their house shirt!
Our students and grandparents filled the cafeteria Friday morning! It was a special morning, and we are grateful to Villiage Green RVA for their delicious donation!
The end of the school year is always bittersweet, but it is especially bittersweet for us here at Carver since Mrs. Brennan, Mrs. Fish, Mrs. Atkinson, and Mrs. Harlow will not be returning to Carver next year!
After 16 years at Carver, Mrs. Brennan plans to spend her retirement cruising to Alaska and enjoying time with her four, out-of-town grandchildren. In her words, "more travel, grandkids, repeat … "
Mrs. Fish has been here for 29 years and will continue to make her mark as a PREP participant for Henrico. She is looking forward to continued service on the Walk4JaneO committee as well as the Chippenham Clothes Closet- two organizations created in memory of Jane O’Toole. She will also be spending time with family, focusing on her health, and visiting her son at VA Tech to cheer him on as a Marching Virginian (Bring on the Sandman)!
Mrs. Atkinson plans to celebrate the end of her 22 years at Carver by spending as much time as possible with her grandbabies and traveling. In fact, trips to Disney and Costa Rica are already on the books!
Mrs. Harlow has been with us 3 years and is taking her talent to Twin Hickory Elementary as their new reading specialist. Although we will miss her, we are excited for her and know she will continue to positively impact students.
Thank you ladies for your service to our Cougars!
We are so grateful for our dedicated teachers here at Carver!
Last week, we had our first ever Kickball Tournament here at Carver! Our K-2 Class Winner was Mrs. Ahearn's 1st grade class, and our 3-5 Class Winner was Mrs. Spevak's 3rd grade class. Congratulations to Mrs. Ahearn's class for beating the teacher team, and even though they didn't win, Mrs. Spevak's class did a great job up against the teachers!
