Open houses for Online Health and Physical Education will be conducted at Glen Allen High School on Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. and at Varina High School on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. If you are interested in signing up for the Online Health and PE course this summer, you are encouraged to attend one of the open house meetings.

As many of you know, summer Online Health and P.E. has become a popular program for our students. Due to limited resources needed for this type of online course, we must cap the enrollment at 500 students. Priority will be given to rising eleventh- and twelfth-grade students to ensure they have the credits necessary for graduation. Rising ninth- and tenth-grade students will be eligible for a lottery for the remaining slots. Students not selected in the lottery should be prepared to take the course in regular summer school, during the school year or online during another summer. More information regarding the lottery and courses can be found at the summer Online Health and P.E. information page.

The courses are open to students who will be enrolled in Henrico County Public Schools and to HCPS students enrolled at Maggie Walker Governor’s School during school year 2019-20.

All students – including juniors and seniors – who wish to be considered for Online Health and P.E. must sign up for the lottery. If you are seriously interested in taking this class, please fill out and submit the Online Health and P.E. lottery form (once per child). You can verify that you are signed up for the lottery by looking for your name on the lottery list.

Parents may sign up for the 2019 lottery beginning Feb. 7 at approximately 7 a.m. Sign-ups will conclude March 1 at 4 p.m. Everyone who signs up for the lottery will be contacted by email the week of March 4 to let them know if they were selected for the summer 2019 Online Health and Physical Education class. All correspondence will be through email, so it is very important that email addresses be correct.

If selected, parents will need to go to their home school counseling office to register and pay for the class sometime from March 11-22, at 4 p.m. If students are not selected through the lottery, they will not be able to register in the counseling office. Registration is not complete until forms and payment are received in the student’s home-school counseling office.

We are proud to be able to offer this strong and popular summer online program. We appreciate your patience and understanding, as we handle the high student demand in a fair and equitable way. If you have any questions regarding Online Health and Physical Education, contact Benita Turner at or 804-652-3741; or Julie Ballowe at
