Open houses set for summer Online Health and Physical Education program

Open houses for Online Health and Physical Education courses will be held at Glen Allen High School Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. and at Varina High School Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. If your student is interested in taking the Online Health and P.E. course this summer, you are encouraged to attend one of the open house meetings. A mandatory lottery determines program participants. Students may sign up for the lottery beginning Feb. 8; lottery sign-ups conclude March 2.

Summer Online Health and P.E. is a popular program for HCPS students. Because resources for online courses are limited, Henrico Schools caps the enrollment at 500 students. Priority will be given to rising 11th- and 12th-grade students to ensure they have the credits necessary for graduation. Rising ninth- and 10th-grade students will be eligible for a lottery for the remaining slots. Students not selected in the lottery should be prepared to take the course in regular summer school, during the school year or online during another summer. More information about the lottery and courses can be found at the summer Online Health and P.E. information page.

The courses are open to students who will be enrolled in Henrico County Public Schools and to HCPS students enrolled at Maggie Walker Governor’s School during school year 2018-19.

All students – including juniors and seniors – who wish to be considered for the summer Online Health and P.E. course must sign up for the lottery. Families of students interested in taking the class must fill out and submit the Online Health and P.E. lottery form (once per child). You may verify that you are signed up for the lottery by looking for your name on the lottery list.

Parents or guardians may sign their students up for the 2018 lottery beginning Feb. 8 at approximately 7 a.m. Sign-ups will conclude March 2 at 4 p.m. Everyone who signs up for the lottery will be contacted by email the week of March 5 to let them know if they were selected for the summer 2018 Online Health and Physical Education class. All communication will be through email, so it is important that email addresses be correct.

If selected, parents or guardians must go to their home-school counseling office at 4 p.m. during the March 12-23 window to register and pay for the class. If students are not selected through the lottery, they will not be able to register in the counseling office. Registration is not complete until forms and payment are received in the student’s home-school counseling office.

Henrico Schools is proud to offer this strong and popular summer online program. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we handle the high student demand in a fair and equitable way.
