Henrico County Public Schools remains committed to student and staff health, wellness and safety. The school division partners with the Virginia Department of Health to stay informed on reported cases of COVID and other contagious illnesses and considers guidance from the VDH and CDC when developing COVID mitigation and other healthy practices.
To help reduce the spread of germs and illness, HCPS custodial staff cleans every school across the county daily. Classroom cleaning supplies are also available for teachers. Air filtration systems are among the highest quality available to schools and are maintained in alignment with industry best practices.
One of the best ways to curb the spread of any illness in our school is for people to stay home when they are sick. When necessary, schools will address concerns about attendance on a case-by-case basis.
Face Masks
Although not required for daily attendance, face masks will be available upon request by any student, staff member or visitor to a school building.
COVID Isolation and Quarantine
If a student becomes ill with COVID-like symptoms at school, the school nurse will assess the student’s health and contact parents as needed.
The Virginia Department of Health recommends that anyone testing positive for COVID-19 isolate for Days 0-5 and wear a face mask on Days 6-10 when returning to school or work. HCPS staff and students must be fever-free for 24 hours without using medications and have improving symptoms before returning to school on Day 6.
Regardless of vaccination status, students and staff exposed to COVID no longer need to quarantine.
COVID Test Kits
As established last year, COVID test kits are available for students. Staff may also request a rapid test kit.
