Reminder: All HCPS students are eligible for free meals at school for the 2021-22 school year.
Because of a pandemic-related extension from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, all Henrico County students are eligible to receive free breakfasts and lunches at school through the 2021-22 school year.
P-EBT pandemic benefits
The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer, or P-EBT, program is a federal program originally created to supplement school meals that students missed while schools were closed.
P-EBT update for the 2021-22 school year
The federal P-EBT program will operate under new eligibility guidelines for the current school year and benefits will only be issued on a case-by-case basis to students who meet specific criteria, as defined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
What does this mean for Virginia?
- Eligibility for P-EBT benefits will change for all students in 2021-22.
- There are no additional P-EBT benefits scheduled to be released at this time.
- Breakfast and lunch are available at schools to all students at no cost every school day, regardless of family income.
Additional details regarding the release of P-EBT benefits for the 2021-22 school year are still being determined, including guidance for children under age six. More information will be communicated upon USDA’s approval of Virginia’s P-EBT plan.
