The HCPS Evening School of Excellence serves high school students who:
- Have experienced academic difficulties or personal challenges.
- Do not have room in their schedule for all required classes.
- Are at risk of not graduating on time.
The program provides an opportunity for students to complete coursework in evening classes and recover credits needed for graduation. The instructional program addresses the learning styles of students through smaller classes, more individualized attention and differentiated teaching strategies. For the spring 2023 session, all classes will be virtual.

Program Description
The Evening School of Excellence primarily serves high school students who have experienced academic difficulties, personal challenges, and/or are at-risk of not graduating on time. Designed to help students get back on track to graduation, the program provides an opportunity for students to complete coursework and recover credits needed for graduation through evening classes. The instructional program addresses the learning styles of students through smaller classes, more individualized attention, and differentiated teaching strategies.
For the Spring of 2023 all Evening School of Excellence courses will take place via virtual, synchronous classroom instruction. This instructional format allows the program to serve students across the county. Please note there are portions of the Drivers Education curriculum that will be taught in person. Students will be notified by their teachers regarding when in person instruction format will be in place.

MANDATORY Virtual Online PE 9 & 10 Orientation Tuesday, February 14th from 6-8 pm. A link to this virtual orientation will be sent by the teacher before the meeting. Heart Rate Monitors are needed for Online HPE 9 & 10. If students need to borrow a heart rate monitor for the course, arrangements will be made with their instructor. |

Tuition
Students may enroll in one course for a tuition fee of $200. Students may enroll in two core academic courses held within the same session for $300. To receive the discounted tuition rate for two classes, both classes MUST be taken by the same student AND the student must take both courses within the same session. No discount applies when students are taking Driver’s Education or Online Health/PE courses. Online Health/PE costs $225 and Driver’s Education costs $150. Students taking Driver’s Education must have a learner’s permit by the first day of class.
Course Drop Period
The last day to drop a course with a refund is February 17, 2023. Please see your home school counselor if you wish to drop the class.

Classes meet twice each week 5:15 pm – 8:30 pm.
Henrico County Public Schools reserve the right to cancel courses for which there is insufficient enrollment.

There is an additional fee for Behind the Wheel.
*An additional fee applies for the Behind-the-Wheel portion of the Driver’s Education course. The B-T-W fee ($100) is collected by the driving instructor. Students enrolling in Online PE must have a current physical. Students who are not able to provide an acceptable copy of a current physical to the instructor on opening night will be required to drop the course the following day.

Pay for the ESOE Course
ESOE Tuition can be paid online using the HCPS OSP – Online School Payment site. When paying online, please remember to pay under your child’s home school. Click the link to start online payment process online payment,
Parents should NOT pay tuition until AFTER they have completed the ESOE registration form. Payment will be refunded to any student who has not been properly registered for the ESOE course.
If parents would like to pay in person, please make an appointment at your child’s home school to complete that transaction. Checks or money orders should be made payable to the home school. Tuition must be paid in full when the application is submitted.
Have Your Child’s School Counselor Complete the “School Counselor ESOE Student/Course Verification” form.
