Teacher of the Year finalists

And then there were five: No school division has better teachers than HCPS, but only one instructor can be named the school division's Teacher of the Year. This year's finalists are selected from among all the individual schools' teachers of the year, using an interview and review process by a committee of administrators and educators. Congrats to the 2023 finalists!

  • Erica Hall, Laburnum Elementary School (Fairfield District)
  • Crissy Lynn, Shady Grove Elementary School (Three Chopt District)

Henrico won the most awards of any county in Virginia for the 17th consecutive year and the ninth most nationally.

Tree cheers for HCPS students! Vote through Monday for Lewis Ginter holiday decorations.

Lewis Ginter trees

“I never thought it was such a bad little tree. It’s not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love.” — Linus Van Pelt

Recently, students from HCPS schools channeled their inner Linus, and helped give trees at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden lots of love. Now you can give them your vote! Lewis Ginter’s “Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights” is in the running for a top-10 spot in USA Today’s Botanical Garden Holiday Lights contest. Show your support for HCPS students and Lewis Ginter by voting once a day per device. Voting ends Dec. 5 at noon.

Flu season is here and people feel fa-la-lousy

Custodial teams are cleaning and disinfecting classrooms and high traffic areas of the building daily to help reduce the spread of germs in our schools. There are things you can do at home to help prevent the spread of illness as well. For example:

  • It’s not too late for your family to get flu shots.
  • Everyone should wash their hands thoroughly, multiple times a day.
  • Please remind your children that they should cover their mouths and noses when they cough or sneeze.
  • Remember that children who are not feeling well or who are running a fever should stay home from school. Anyone with a fever is potentially contagious and should not be at school until he or she is fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.

Thank you for your assistance in keeping our students and staff healthy and happy in our schools.

Did you know

HCPS has partnered with MajorClarity, an online academic and career planning platform designed to help K-12 students explore and discover possible careers and courses that closely relate to their interests, personality, skills and strengths. The platform helps students take ownership of their academic and career goals.

Because parents and guardians play an integral role in their child’s academic and career planning process, students are encouraged to access MajorClarity at home with their family, in addition to the various planned and scheduled opportunities to use the platform at school. Parents and guardians can also access MajorClarity via their student's account anytime, from any device, using the Clever digital learning platform.
