As of today, HCPS is adopting shorter quarantine periods and has adjusted who must quarantine after being identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19. The change to a minimum five-day, at-home quarantine aligns with new CDC and Virginia Department of Health guidance. As a reminder, students and staff must be symptom-free and have a negative COVID test on Day 5 before returning to school from quarantine. Current HCPS practices for isolation will not change. Anyone testing positive for COVID must remain home for 10 days. Go to our COVID-19 Updates page to learn more and read answers to FAQ.
In-school vaccination clinics for 5- to 11-year-olds are underway or planned at 20 elementary schools, and Saturday booster clinics are being planned at multiple sites for those 12 and older. More information is at our COVID-19 Updates page.
To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our schools, the division continues to use multilayered mitigation strategies such as improved HVAC systems and air scrubbers, well-fitted multilayer face masks (including N95 masks for staff in close physical contact with students for extended periods of time), COVID-19 screening testing and vaccinations. We are also limiting the number of visitors and volunteers in our schools to reduce possible exposure.
We appreciate all that our students, families and staff do to keep our schools and communities safe!
