YAY ANGELA CARTER! Kelsey King, school counseling director at the Academy at Virginia Randolph, is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored her recently at the school.
YAYWORTHY: Nominator LaToya Brown said: “Ms. King is the heartbeat of the school. She creates activities so that all students feel included and loved. During a time where educators are exhausted and overwhelmed she comes to school every day with a smile. She’s not only a dynamic school counselor, but you can also add ‘teacher’ to her resume. She enjoys working with students during lunch to help them improve their academics.
“Students complete applications to attend the Academy at Virginia Randolph. Ms. King always accepts students who have challenges at their home school, encourages them and works with those students all the way to graduation and beyond. She never gives up! She inspires students who have given up to want to achieve. I do not know anyone more deserving of this honor.
“She had a student on her caseload who doubted himself and was going to drop out of school. She met with this student daily and when he could not come to school, she took time out of her day to deliver assignments to him. This student was a success story because of Ms. King’s determination to always inspire students to work through their trauma. She leads with love and it shines a bright light throughout the Campus of Virginia Randolph!”
Thank you for all you do, Angela Carter, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
