YAY NANCY NELSON! Nancy Nelson, a geometry teacher at Henrico High School, is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored her recently at the school.
YAYWORTHY: Nancy had three nominations! Nominator Desiney Lowery said: “She always responds in a timely way to my messages. When my child was not performing as he should have been, Ms. Nelson immediately reached out and set aside — not one, but several time slots — to make sure that he not only understood but could explain the learned information.”
Susan Scoven said: “She is communicative with students and parents, helpful to both, and truly cares about her students. She sends a weekly email with what the class is doing and her availability for extra instruction. She scheduled a virtual meeting with my son to make sure he could learn what he missed while out for COVID-19 quarantine.”
Tori Patrick said: “She emails her students and parents weekly giving updates about what we’ll learn, and if we have any upcoming events in our class. Ms. Nelson also gives us multiple resources about what she’s teaching us. She communicates weekly (but sometimes more often than that) with every parent or guardian of her students. She communicates about the details of the work she’s given to her students, as well as projects, quizzes, tests and any pertinent information. She does this in an extremely caring manner, which has been very refreshing and supportive for the freshman students and their parents.
“A few students in her class needed a refresher on algebraic expressions and she set up her office hours and Warrior Time so that those students could get the help they needed. She keeps the lines of communication open, no matter how big or small the issue. She gives clear and concise lessons and information, which makes her class easier to understand.”
Thank you for all you do, Nancy Nelson, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
