Yay of the Day awardee, Heather Vickers of Three Chopt Elementary School, receiving her swag bag.

YAY HEATHER VICKERS! Heather Vickers, a Three Chopt Elementary School special education teacher in academic intervention services, is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored her recently at the school.

YAYWORTHY: Nominator Stacey Richmond said: “Heather goes over and beyond every day to make sure all of her students get what they need. Teaching is challenging in itself, but teaching children with special needs (verbal and nonverbal) takes a special kind of person. Heather works individually with each of her students to ensure that their needs are met. Her patience is like no other. She comes to work every day with a smile on her face and love in her heart. Heather looks forward to seeing her students every day and helping them grow and succeed in their education.

“One of her students was having a rough time in their home life, and she was there to reassure the student and make them feel safe and loved. The student looked forward to coming to school and wanted to be there. Heather shows compassion and builds trust. She provides a safe place for her students. She’s truly one of a kind.

“Not only does Heather care about her students, but her love for her coworkers is immeasurable. She treats everyone with respect and is always willing to help. She’s a true team player! I could go on and on why she deserves this award. The smiles on her students’ faces each day say it all!”

Thank you for all you do, Heather Vickers, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
