2021-22 REB Award: Recognize your principal as one of central Va.’s great educational leaders

Henrico, Va. Sept. 27, 2021 — The REB Awards for Distinguished Educational Leadership provide a tangible, public way to recognize an outstanding principal at a Henrico County school. The Community Foundation’s yearly awards identify, recognize and support leadership excellence in the Richmond area. Honorees will receive an unrestricted $10,000 cash grant, as well as $20,000 to be used for school initiatives. Eligible are principals from public schools in Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanover counties and the city of Richmond.

The Community Foundation is seeking nominations of candidates who:

  • Have served as principal of their school for at least three years.
  • Effectively manage and promote excellence in education.
  • Demonstrate leadership and exemplify commitment.
  • Inspire their students and are advocates for their school and faculty.
  • Encourage team spirit.
  • Foster cooperation between the school and the community.
  • Maintain dialogue with students, parents, faculty and staff.

Last year’s HCPS winner was Ryan Stein, principal of Greenwood Elementary School, while Leigh Dunavant of Mills Godwin High School was a finalist.

Who: The Community Foundation invites nominations from students, parents, colleagues, school personnel and administrators, and the greater community. Principals may not nominate themselves.

When: Nominations must be submitted through the foundation’s online portal by 5 p.m. on Nov. 4. Hard copies or nominations submitted via email or fax will not be accepted.

How: To nominate a principal, go to www.cfrichmond.org/Grantseekers/REB-Awards-for-Distinguished-Educational-Leadership and scroll to the “Nominate Here” button. Nominators must create an account before logging in. As part of their application, nominators should upload a one- to two-page letter describing the nominee’s distinguished educational leadership. Nominators may also upload as many as three one-page letters of support.
