Henrico, Va. July 22, 2021 — Henrico County Public Schools’ Pupil Transportation Department wants to make the start to the 2021-22 school year as successful as possible. A central aspect of planning is understanding which students will need bus service to school in the morning and from school to their homes in the afternoon. HCPS families can ensure that the school division’s transportation department knows their plans for the fall by responding to a two-question survey available in a link they’ll receive by email Monday.
Parents and guardians will receive one email July 26 for each child enrolled in the division and should complete the questionnaire for each student. They’ll also receive survey reminders during August. The surveys will not be sent to families who live in areas identified as within walking distance of their student’s school.
Families are being reminded that the current federal order from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention remains in place, requiring that masks be worn on public transportation, which includes school buses. At present, all bus passengers and operators, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask over their nose and mouth. The order doesn’t stipulate physical distancing, however. To prioritize the safety of our students and staff, HCPS will continue to follow CDC, Virginia and federal laws, guidance and recommendations, to the maximum extent practicable.
While families are requested to assist in the transportation planning process, bus transportation will be available to all students who need it, regardless of questionnaire completion.
