YAY POLLY BOSSE! Polly Bosse of David Kaechele Elementary School is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored Polly recently at Kaechele.

YAYWORTHY— Nominator Katie Visconti said: “Mrs. Bosse is an exceptional teacher who shows up every day with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She never gives up on her students and despite everything they have been through with virtual learning she has found a way to connect and make them feel special. She has managed to build community, respect and love in her virtual classroom and she teaches her students through her own example how to be patient, understanding and to persevere despite the technology challenges and other issues that they have faced. She works tirelessly to ensure these kids are thriving and we are so thankful for her dedication and hard work. Mrs. Bosse truly cares about these children and always goes above and beyond, and she deserves to be recognized. We love Mrs. Bosse!

“My daughter, as did countless others, lost the last few months of her kindergarten year when the pandemic closed schools. She lost critical instruction time and as a result did not have the basic building blocks she needed to read. When my daughter started first grade she lacked the confidence to take chances with reading and was quickly becoming frustrated and discouraged. Mrs. Bosse, being the amazing teacher that she is, really got through to her and helped her to not only catch up on what she missed but helped her to grow beyond that. My daughter has so much confidence and love for reading now and I credit that all to Mrs. Bosse. She was an amazing teacher before the pandemic hit and it is no surprise that she has gone above and beyond to keep these kids engaged and excited about learning.”

Carolyn Brosnihan said: “Mrs. Bosse goes above and beyond every day to make virtual school fun and engaging for her students. She engages the kids in many different ways to make connections with them. She started a pen pal letter-writing activity with the kids, where she wrote a letter to them, and they now write back and forth with each other. She makes a point of connecting with each child one-on-one to find out their likes and dislikes, including picking “good-fit” books for them to read during school. She actively uses the learning packets that we pick up from school so that the kids aren’t spending all their time on online platforms. In this crazy learning environment, my son is excited to start school every day and it’s because of Polly. Her love for her students is just incredible.”

Thank you for all you do, Polly, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward! • No. 75 in a 100-Yay series. See previous “Yay of the Day” honorees at https://henricoschools.us/yay-of-the-day/
