YAY AMANDA BUTZ! Amanda Butz of Lakeside Elementary School is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored Amanda recently at Lakeside.

YAYWORTHY— Amanda had four nominations!

Nominator Chrissy Szabo said: “She has done an absolutely amazing job with virtual learning. She is patient, engaging and a joy to listen to with the students. Like many parents, I struggled with the in-person vs virtual options because we did not want to lose Ms. B. She made time to connect with me and made me feel at ease with a plan. She is truly a blessing to our family.”

Crystal Cruz said: “She is one of the most patient and passionate teachers my child has had. When the students are having a tough time she makes sure their feelings are acknowledged.”

Christinia McClelland said: “She is helping my child thrive emotionally as well as academically! He was getting frustrated while trying to complete a writing assignment, because he couldn’t write the letters as well as he wanted to. His frustration led to a negative attitude toward Ms. Butz, but instead of addressing his attitude with reprimand, she took the time to listen and understand, and helped him find appropriate ways to express and relieve his frustration. She demonstrated such care and attentiveness, when it was likely more difficult to do so than it would have been to scold him for having a bad attitude. She is such a light in our lives this year and I am beyond thankful for her!”

Lauren White said: “Ms. B is an amazing teacher who inspires her students to have a love of learning. She is incredibly kind and supportive, and the students know she loves and cares about them! She even orders pizza to be delivered to the student-of-the-week! She answers endless parent questions with a smile and is just amazing! She helped my shy second-grader come out of his shell by fostering such a welcoming classroom, even in the virtual setting. I could not have asked for a better teacher for him!”

Thank you for all you do, Amanda, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
