YAY DAWN JOHNS! Dawn Johns of Pinchbeck Elementary School is today’s “Yay of the Day” honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored Dawn recently at Pinchbeck.

YAYWORTHY— Nominator Aryn Carlson said: “Mrs. Johns goes above and beyond to make her students feel valued and special. Every day, she greets her students with a personalized greeting for each student. She even has special greetings for special days (like on Rosh Hashanah, she said ‘Shalom’ and discussed what this word means). Mrs. Johns has the students fill out a chart on how they are feeling and what they need from her to help them succeed for that day. She has even sent our daughter a card in the mail to let her know of the great job she is doing, recognizing her hard work.

“She makes sure her students feel valued and cared for. Every student in Mrs. Johns’ class knows their contribution to the class is an important one, even in the virtual setting. In addition, Mrs. Johns’ love of teaching extends beyond the school hours. She has ‘office hours’ where she remains available after the in-person virtual day ends so students can ask her questions. She also holds a writing workshop each Thursday afternoon for an hour for any fifth-grader interested in improving their writing skills. “Mrs. Johns is a very special teacher and deserves the ‘Yay of the Day’ award! She sent our daughter a special card in the mail to let her know she recognized her hard work in school and was proud of her accomplishments. Mrs. Johns even has a ‘woop woop’ shoutout for students who complete their work each week to encourage the students to stay engaged and complete their virtual assignments.”

Thank you for all you do, Dawn, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
